The Recipe for 6/28/18

Picks of the Week:

Multiple Man #1 continues the theme of Jaime avoiding death thanks to an unaccounted for dupe.  Guess it makes sense since being an X-Men or living on Muir Island is extremely dangerous so a spare clone is a great way to survive.  Thought it was a great addition for this clone to be a bit of a genetics tinkerer and it connects to that old story where Jaime created dupes for the purpose of expanding his knowledge (think Naruto’s wind rasengan training with Shadow Clones).  It is also nice to see Bishop back accepted back into the fold after all the stuff he has done, this really accentuates the whole forgiveness & acceptance part of the X-family.  I am curious about the guest at the end and how they became who they are, especially “Cable-Lite”.

Old Man Hawkeye #6 made perfect sense that in a future where villainy won that a certain soldier gets cast back into a darkness and used as a weapon once again.  Think it will take a lot of luck for Clint to come out on top when they face off especially with Clint’s limitations and that soldier is still at his peak.  Also found it interesting that we see the origins of Venom Rex (I wonder if the symbiote is in full control if the host is not sentient).  Is the symbiote weaker, I doubt that younger Clint could have stopped Eddie at Helm with arrows that weren’t sonic or incendiary.

Worthy Mentions:

Thor #2 reminded me of Kratos or Dante in the sense that Thor has a choice of weapons to use when vanquishing foes.  This arsenal makes him more unpredictable and dangerous in my opinion.  It’s a pity that he does have his Celestial-Slaying axe with him.  Part of me wished that Hela was still with Thanos plotting something devious and epic together.

Black Panther #2 is visually stunning but I wish the narrative wasn’t so tied to T’Challa & company and had a completely original cast of characters.  The one can only assume that T’Challa was mindwiped and ended up as  slave in space.  The other assumption is Emperor N’Jadaka is the Killmonger that we know and love from Earth.

Marvel Two-In-One #7 seems like the encounter with his evil sense restored some of the spark Victor lost while he walked with the angels.  This issue is consistent in its portrayal of evil Spidey; seems like every evil version of Peter Parker is creepy & warped as hell.  Surprised that Strange was able to get the drop on Victor (always thought that they were basically on the same level magically).  Curious to see the Mad Thinker’s version of the Fantastic Four come into play.

Sentry #1 makes me wonder will the heroes have the right tools to stop the Sentry when the Void reemerge, especially since Bobby Reynolds is capable of killing a god so heavy hitter like Hulk & Thor might not be enough.  I have the same question about Bobby that I have for characters in a horror movie that has been bitten by a zombie/vampire/werewolf: Why don’t you kill yourself to save others from pain & death?  If control is so fleeting for Bobby and the Void always wreaks havoc when he’s free, just end the threat permanently or banish himself to some far off pocket dimension away from sentient life.

The Terrifics #5 had me at a Metamopho Pitbull!  He already beats all other super powered pets in my book!  Plas & Rex definitely have a Johnny and Ben vibe with their bickering.

The Meh Pile:

Nothing that loathsome or odious this week.
