The Recipe of 10/10/18

Pick of the Week:

Immortal Hulk #7 deserves kudos for maintaining the horror elements with the Avengers playing such a prominent role.  He was a threat on a physical and psychological level; he preyed on their insecurities as well as pummeled them.  A testament to Banner’s strength was striking Thor with such a force that it knocked out his tooth and gave him a concussion.  In all the years of seeing the Hulk and Thor throwing down, I never saw the Thor humbled like this before.  Loved how Steve reacted to this situation, he remained concerned for Bruce amid the chaos of their confrontation.  The last page was definitely creepy like Japanese Horror movie creepy.

Birthright #32 showed us what Michael’s salvation ultimately cost Rya.  Found it funny how skeptical and grounded, Mikey’s mom remains with all the unexplained and magical stuff occurring around her.  We also learn why Mikey is so adamant about removing/destroying magic completely.  I wonder what happened to Zoshanna and if she will make a return at some point?

Wonder Woman #56 makes me wonder (no pun intended) how Diana and company will handle Hecate in the end.  She is able to thwart the Otherkind and drive fear in the heart of Circe.  Circe is powerful enough to transform Holland and Constantine (an elemental and a powerful magical user) into harmless animals.

Worthy Mentions:

X-Men Black – Mojo #1 bored me with the Mojo story but Apocalypse continues to hold my interest.  I am curious to see how Apocalypse will change after his forced humanity situation.  Will he double down on his villainy or will he make an attempt to reform like Doom did (which isn’t odd since he partnered with the X-Men in the past).? Will the Celestials get involved since they have a vested interest in him,

X-23 #5 resolved the battle of the clones with Laura victorious.  Part of me still wished that Laura still used the code name, “Wolverine” because she was a better Wolverine than Logan IMO.

Exiles #9 delighted me to see these legends with the cast filling in these key roles.  Part of me wished that Morph survived so he could be a part of this madness.

Avengers #9 consistently presents Namor as a wild card and I wonder how he will be dealt with after murdering a hero in cold blood.  Since when can Thor and Hulk can breathe underwater? Is Namor’s invulnerability, the result of him being underwater? Shouldn’t the supernatural flames of the Ghost Rider dehydrate Namor?

Hawkman #5 continues to be an interesting run and makes me wonder if this interpretation of time flow only impacts Carter. Like that obscure DC character, Resurrection Man, does each of his lives exist simultaneously?

Ms. Marvel #35 revealed the mechanism of Kamala’s powers and I wonder how soon before she gets looped up in time travel shenanigans.

Red Hood Outlaw #27 had a touching interaction between Bruce and Jason.

Feeling Some Type of Way:

Nothing that loathsome or odious this week.
