The Recipe for 9/26/18

Pick of the Week:

Justice League Dark #3 introduced the Upside-Down Man, a very creepy and chilling villain.  He felt like a Clive Barker villain in the DC World, his dialogue had a Pinhead flare.  He decimated the team without batting an eye, especially Swamp Thing (an elemental guardian).  Constantine continues to be a wildcard with deity-devastating sigil he held as his ace.  Diana displayed her strong willed determination in her defense of her allies. His defeat felt more like a minor setback instead of a sound vanquishing; it also felt like a prelude to apocalyptic things to come.

Heroes in Crisis #1 caught me completely off-guard with the all of the fatalities in this issue.  The overall concept of the book is refreshing and unique.  I am surprised that Marvel hasn’t really ran with this idea outside of Doc Samson working with the Val Cooper-sponsored X-Factor team and Banner.

Worthy Mentions:

Black Panther #4 has some amazing artwork but the story is a Hickman level slowburn.

Domino Annual #1 was an enjoyable book, especially the ugly mutant support group story at the end.

Extermination #3 surprised me that Yung Nate cared enough to make sure that Mimic was unconscious for his surgery but couldn’t he just tweak Calvin’s abilities with some future tech so he can absorb the power upgrades? What will Yung Nate do about Bobby’s expanded powers and Hank’s dark magic? Anything surgery outside of a lobotomy won’t fix this issue.

The Silencer #9 continues to be an entertaining and compelling book.  The cyberpunk elements continue to remind me of old Cable books.

The Weatherman #4 continues to feel like a delightful mix of Total Recall and Cowboy Bebop.

Infinity Warped – Iron Hammer #1 felt as campy as the Amalgam Comics’ Dark Claw. Would be interesting if this reality was transformed into a pocket reality & continued to exist in the multiverse.

Feeling Some Type of Way:

Nothing that loathsome or odious this week.

The Meh Pile:

Nothing that loathsome or odious this week.
