The Recipe for 8/29/18

Pick of the Week:

Exiles #7 reminds me of the Mist in the sense that the true big bad is a morally corrupt “Christian” manipulator.  Lil Wolvie is definitely a welcomed injection of hope/happiness and this leads me to believe that he is most likely the Exile to die since he is the team’s heart.  The Tribunal Watcher are far more proactive & surgical than their predecessors and I wished that the Time Variance Authority was more like them (maybe the X-Men would not put the timeline at risk so often).

Runaways #12 confirmed two ships with this issue and a controversial member has returned.  It can be assumed that he is the long time foe & the big bad was promised in the solicitations  I am more concerned about the Magica De Spell that Nico had before her date and the full implications.  I was concerned that one ship confirmed the dark future that was the impetus for the second volume.  Anka & Wilson did a brilliant job (pun intended) for the butterfly scene.

Worthy Mentions:

Edge of SpiderGeddon #2 strengthened the Neon Genesis vibe especially with a certain mechanical suit going berserk and absorbing the pilot. The story overall felt very short, I wished that there was more to devour.

Extermination #2 is a firm reminder that every version of Cable is a blunt instrument when surgical precision is required.  I figured that he would have dealt with Warren more humanely & used some future tech to make Mimic suitable for the task of removing the cosmic wings.  But Nate being Nate uses buzz-saws to remove them (painfully).  I dug how Ahab improved his Hound process & made it as infectious as lycanthropy.

The Silencer Annual #1 granted the audience the much anticipated run-in with the Bat.

X-23 #3 explained why Laura revived her old code name.  I am also delighted that it didn’t take some extremely jacked up event to get Laura to maintain her “No Killing” rule.  Her papa & siblings don’t seem to possess her resolve.  I will miss Warren serving as her personal Uber with the conclusion of Extermination and the original 5’s absence from the recent X images.

Web of Venom – Ve’Nam #1 revealed the government’s first & failed attempt at Agent Venom.  It looks like Nick Fury still has a lot to answer for.

Feeling Some Type of Way:

New Mutants – Dead Souls #6 confused me with its ending.  Was it set in some alternate reality because there’s no way it could end like that not have a significant impact on other X-Books.

The Meh Pile:

Nothing that loathsome or odious this week.
