The Recipe for 8/22/18

Pick of the Week:

Sentry #3 reveals how the plot of the previous issue was formed and how far gone Reynold’s former partner has fallen.  I love how the creative team overall handles such a powerful hero without depowering him or making his opposition OP.

Justice League Dark #2 had a very creepy opening with the Hecate summoning ritual and egually creepy finale with the introduction of the nightmare inducing Upsidedown Man.  The creature is scary because it possesses intelligence instead of being a simple beast governed by base impulses/needs.  This book is everything that Nightstalkers/Midnight Suns was not in terms of having a significant vein of horror in super heroics.

Worthy Mentions:

Avengers #6 felt a bit flat in terms on the Dark Celestials and the Horde as a legitimate threat.  It’s not the fault of the creative team, but Marvel for having this steady stream of Mega Events that present the readers with similar threats.  The Dark Host didn’t really commit an attack IMO that made the threat credible.

The Terrifics #7 continue to embody everything that made Fantastic Four enjoyable.  It was also nice to revisit the super science world of Tom Strong.  I love how Rex much like Ben Grimm continues the good fight despite being powerless: proving that he is a true hero at his core.

Black Panther #3 still made me wish that the cast was composed of completely new characters.  The plot still reads like a standard space opera.

Hunt for Wolverine – Mystery in Madripoor #4 confirmed for me that damn near every telepath has a means of escaping death either assistance from a cosmic entity, using psychic energy, or possessing an available vessel. A mutant mind reader won’t stay in the dirt for long. Guessing Cable will be back eventually since he falls in this category and his other self, Nate Grey, returned to life using a similar method.

The Punisher #1 surprises me on some level that the SHIELD isn’t keeping the capes off Castle’s back so he could eliminate Zemo and any of his henchmen along the way.  Frank already took one significant threat of the board (then again the victim doesn’t really stay dead).

Feeling Some Type of Way:

No Feels for this week

The Meh Pile:

Nothing that loathsome or odious this week.
