The Recipes for 4/11/18

Pick of the Week:
Thanos #18 made me wonder what circumstances led Thanos to become King Thanos: a Thanos who asks for help or begs for death.  Ask current Thanos said, “Kings do not beg” so what could have possibly broken him since murdering his own mother, his own children, annihilating half the universe, reliving all of his sins, etc just made him smirk.  I dug how present Thanos resolved to never become King Thanos and he faded out of existence (reminded me of the South Park episode where present Cartman thwarted the future Cartman who was a decent human being).  The battle of the Titans was short, sweet, BRUTAL, and action packed (unlike those prolonged shonen fights).  It’s a pity that this is the end because this arc truly made the Mad Titan interesting and appealing IMO.

Exiles #1 delighted me that the original Nick Fury has been put to good use.  Found it interesting that Blink is from the Islands (at least her family is), you don’t see many heroes from the Caribbean (outside of Puerto Rico and Haiti).  It was also rare to see a female comic protagonist from a dystopian future, Khan (call her “Ms. Marvel” at your own peril) had a real Sarah Connor’s vibe.  Not sure how to feel about Iron Lad attempting to maim/kill his bullies in light of recent school shootings, but bullying was such an integral part of his origins.  Part of me wished that other reality displaced heroes joined Blink like Noh-Varr, Nate Grey, and Shatterstar.

Despicable Deadpool #298 surprised me that someone actually thought of a great way to end Wade’s existence.  It was so efficient & ruthless that it could have easily been penned by Charles Xavier (the infamous Xavier Files) or Bruce Wayne (hey, Bats has a plan for everybody).  It also continues to show us how broken and damaged Wade currently is, one would think that his daughter would be a reason for him to continue leaving but I guess the guilt from all the sins he committed during Secret Empire and the deal with Stryfe is too much for him to bear.  Doubt that he would find any peace in death, since Thanos is jealous and would probably resurrect him to keep him away from Mistress Death.

Worthy Mentions:

Captain America #700 reminded us of who Steve Rogers is ultimately and wiped that foul taint of Hydra Cap IMO.  Steve sacrificed his life to guarantee that horrible future never existed.  How many heroes would give their life to make the world a better place?

Supergirl #20 made me chuckle seeing the Kryptonian werewolf again and was delighted by the glimpses of the Unexpected’s Viking Judge and Neon.

VS #3 speaks to the middle schooler in me who lost hours playing Super Smash TV and Super Contra.  I think the West World team could do a great job with adapting this to television.

Dead Hand #1 felt like a Captain America comic through the splinter of Metal Gear Solid/Call of Duty.

The Meh Pile:

Nothing that horrid & foul has polluted the pull list.
