Black Panther - World of Wakanda #6 header

Pick of the Week:

Black Panther – World of Wakanda No. 6 gave Kasper Cole the spotlight.  Loved the way he took care of Vanisher and Cardiac.  I am glad that he’s finally getting his due.

God Country No. 4 has to be one of the best representations of Kirby as a Genre.  I found the question “How do you believe in/pray to Jesus, when you’re confronted by other gods?” an interesting one.  It seems to be missing or glossed altogether over in the Big Two, how can you be an atheist or Christian in the Marvel or DC Universe?

Doctor Strange No. 19 illustrates Wong’s love for Stephen and how much he sacrificed to support him.  It’s a pity that this creative team is leaving.  Strange hasn’t been interesting to me since BKV wrote that miniseries ages ago.

The Wildstorm No. 3 reintroduced us to Jenny, the Black Razors and the CATs.  I wonder if and when Lynch will make an appearance.  You can’t have Craven, I.O., Deathblow, etc without John Lynch.

Injection No. 12 made me want to reread my books on Arthurian legends, the Merlin information was delectable.

Nightwing No. 19 continues to be one of the most consistently good Bat-books out.  Dick Grayson is being put through a crucible and the end result will be a better hero.

Worthy Mentions:

Nick Fury No. 1 reminds me of the spy noir John Stone aspect of the Planetary.  Frankie Noble’s and her goon’s outfits reminded me of Emma Peel’s jumpsuit.

Poe Dameron No. 13 made me weep bitter tears… why did it have to be Mister Bones?! RIP to Mister Bones.

Batwoman No. 2 gave her an interesting villain.

Cursed Words No. 4 felt like Ugly Americans with a dash of Archer & Venture Bros.

Invincible Iron Man No. 6 has RiRi interacting with her peers.  Kid Scott still seems to be an odd ball in this mix.

Deadpool No. 29 gave us a fun yet anti-climatic ending.

Moon Knight No. 13 surprises me with how trippy this book is without losing its focus or the audience.

Ms. Marvel No. 17 has such a great supporting cast and reminded me of Runaways with the fellowship of gamers.

Rednecks No. 1 reminded me of Near Dark with a dash of Moonshine.

The Burn Pile:

Many books were extra meh but nothing worth burning or mentioning.
