Election Day Prescriptions

Pick of the Week:

Heroes In Crisis #2 surprised me with how vulnerable Bruce was during the Sanctuary confessional and even broke down.  Bruce typically bottles up his feelings & shuts himself off from expressing himself.  Also surprised that Diana also experienced childhood trauma that shaped her growth.  The overall mystery of the true culprit reminds me of my initial reading of Watchmen.  Harley being guilty is too obvious and I don’t believe either of them had the skills or weaponry to take out the super powered patients.

Justice League Dark Wonder Woman Witching Hour #1 was satisfying conclusion to this crossover event and the retelling of Hecate’s story reminded me of the Greek tragedy spawned from broken promises, betrayals, and hurts.  I was caught off-guard by the Upside Down Man’s role in the finality and now consider him a villain that is too powerful for repeated use.

The Terrifics Annual #1 revealed how we arrived at the first issue and how Tom Strong factors into the overall scheme.  The Body Snatchers element was entertaining and fun to the point that it could have been stretched into two or three issues IMO.

Doom Patrol #12 pleased me beyond words. The little 6 year old who was introduced to DnD through the animated series was ecstatic! Also loved how the Reynolds took on the iconic classes & I hope they get a side series to properly conclude their adventure.

Worthy Mentions:

Tony Stark – Iron Man #5 reminded me of the manga series, Franken Fran. Arno Stark, much like Fran, functioned as a fiendish savior.

Multiple Man #5 made me wish that the outcome was different for the super powered dupes.

Infinity Wars – Iron Hammer #2/Soldier Supreme #2/Arach-Knight #1 felt like an Amalgam Comic with the kooky combinations.  Felt like minor tweaks with some of the names/concepts would have neutralized the campy vibe.

The Wild Storm #18 finally brings us closer to the Authority.

Weapon H #9 elevated the threat level of Roxxon with the Weird World “battery” reveal. This evil corporation must have potent resources available to defeat and imprison ********.

Thor #6  just when I thought Old Man Thor couldn’t be cooler, the creative team added the Phoenix to the equation.

Mr. & Mrs. X #4 made me realize how much I missed those space adventures.

Feeling Some Type of Way:

Extermination #4 made my head hurt with the time travel frackery. If Young Nate is a younger version of 616 Cable, wouldn’t his old self remember murdering an older version of himself? Why is Tyke such an impulsive idiot?

The Meh Pile:

Nothing that loathsome or odious this week.
