Batman and Robin Eternal is the successor to last year’s Batman Eternal weekly series.  With this being the 75th anniversary of the Boy Wonder, Batman and Robin Eternal will focus on Dick Grayson and the various men to don the Robin cape and cowl.  There is a dark secret from Batman and Robin’s past that is climbing out from the shadows.  It will take the combined efforts of all the Robins to solve this case.

What I Liked

Tony S. Daniel was a perfect choice for series artist.  Even though he only has 8 pages to illustrate, each one is penciled and inked by Sandu Florea precisely and with much detail.  The opening splash page of the Batmobile roaring into the Batcave is gorgeous.  The colors by Tomeu Morey are on display with the moon overhead, along with the headlights and engine from the Batmobile.

We learn through a video and captions that Batman may have had a hand to play in creating Robin.  At least that is what Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV want us to believe.  A mysterious woman with white hair is shown, with her face blurred out.  Could that be Mother, who has been billed as the series villain?

The most epic pages are a double-page spread teasing events to come down the road.  Inside a Batman symbol we see Red Robin, Bluebird, Red Hood, Spoiler, Damian, James Gordon Batman and Duke Thomas all fighting groups of young men and women.  Could there be mind-control at play here?

And what is the significance of the icy terrain and fortress that Dick Grayson finds?

What I Didn’t Like

What could be so important that it would cause Batman to lie and hide things from Robin?  It seems every year there is an event that causes Batman and his various sidekicks to question him and their relationship.  I know drama sells, but we also need to see the team come together and be a real family.

Something else that bugs me is Batman and Robin Eternal will be taking place the same time as the crossover event “Robin War”.  Could the two bottleneck one another as far as readers believing they need to choose one or the other?
