X-Men Legacy #2 Advanced Review

Script:  Simon Spurrier
Pencils:  Tan Eng Huat

X-Men Legacy #2 is an improvement over issue one.  I at least understood what the hell was going on in issue two.  Legion’s multiple personalities have broken free, and they are fighting for control of his body.  Is Legion strong enough to keep his personalities at bay, or will he succumb to the chaos in his mind?

What I Liked

Everything made more sense in this issue.  When Legion created the Age of Apocalypse, I thought he only had maybe three or four different personalities.  Now, that number is in the hundreds.  Each personality also has its own unique power.  This makes Legion a very dangerous individual.  He could use these abilities for evil, but Legion wants to make his father, the recently deceased Charles Xavier, proud.

The X-Men join the fun as guest-stars.  I’ve said it before, but if this book is to survive, it has to have ties to the X-Men family.  Including some members in future issues will go a long way to attract new readers.  There is also another new character introduced, who almost acts as Legion’s version of The Great Gazoo from The Flintstones.  There are some clues given to this character’s origin, but hopefully more will be revealed in future issues.

The art by Tan Eng Huat has been better than expected.  And better being I was not familiar with Huat’s work beforehand, so I am pleased that I like it.

What I Didn’t Like

This is still a title featuring Legion, so that will always be a negative.  Hopefully Simon Spurrier can weave a compelling story.  This should be the X-title that takes the most chances.  What does Marvel have to lose?  Legion’s new “friend” is rather annoying at times.  I am still not sure if he is a real person or a figment of Legion’s imagination.  Or maybe he’s just another of Legion’s hundred personalities.

In conclusion, we get more to learn more about Legion and what literally goes on in his mind.  He’s on a personal journey of growth, looking to make his father proud.
