Uncanny X-Men #20 Review

*Spoiler Free Review*

Writer:  Kieron Gillen
Penciler:  Carlos Pacheco

With Avengers vs. X-Men concluding and Marvel NOW! beginning, Uncanny X-Men is one of the books coming to an end with issue 20.  It will be replaced in the new Marvel NOW! by All-New X-Men.  The job of Kieron Gillen is to tie up the loose ends developed in the series.

Readers find out the fate of certain members of Cyclops’ Extinction Team, and Cyclops himself  (now a political prisoner after the events of Avengers vs. X-Men) is paid a visit by an old foe.

What I Liked

Carlos Pacheco’s artwork.  I have been a fan of his since his early X-Men work in the 90’s and early 2000’s.  The dialogue between Cyclops and his visitor were crafted very well.  Cyclops has stayed steadfast in his belief that what he has done is the right thing.  But at the end of the issue he’s left questioning himself for the first time.

What I Didn’t Like

With this being the final issue, loose ends had to be wrapped up.  They all seemed very rushed.  Especially with Danger and Colossus.  Plus, there were other members of the Extinction Team missing.  We still do not know their fate or where they lie in the new Marvel NOW!  Perhaps those answers will come in other books.  Also, not much of anything really happened.  Even with issue 20 being a “resolution” of sorts, it still felt like it was missing something.

It’s a shame Uncanny X-Men is coming to an end.  Especially so soon after being relaunched with a new #1.  I guess Marvel felt they had enough titles with the name “Uncanny” in them.

Will you miss Uncanny X-Men?  Or are you looking forward to it being replaced by All-New X-Men?
