The Doktor’s Prescription of 7/6/16

FasterThanLight_08-1

Pick of the Week:

Empress No. 4 revealed some details about the children.  I can see why the eldest son was in danger of being killed by his father now.  The ship is an unexpected quirky character.

Faster Than Light No. 8 made smile uncontrollably with the space pub scene.  I am glad that it was filled with lifeforms that didn’t look remotely human.  Also dug the brief rundown and history of the aliens as well.

Luther Strode TP Vol. 3 reminds me of a well scripted action film and Luther has a shonen hero quality in relation to his attempt at a peaceful resolution before resorting to violence.

Switch No. 4 revealed who the Dragon Prince is and revived another old Top Cow franchise.  This new Top Cow is far more enjoyable than its previous iteration IMO.

Worth the read:

Amazing Spider-Man No. 15 is a welcomed end of an underwhelming arc.

Aquaman No. 2 gave us a surprisingly quick resolution to the Aquaman & Black Manta feud.

Batman No. 2 made me wonder about Gotham & Gotham Girl’s strength after their interaction with Solomon Grundy.

Black Science No. 22 no longer has the Sliders vibe.

Captain America – Sam Wilson No. 11 presents us with both sides of the cape squabble in addition to reintroducing US Agent (thought he was stuck in another dimension with Ragnarok & the other Thunderbolts).

Civil War II – Kingpin No. 1 reminds us why Wilson Fisk is not one to be trifled with.

Deadpool v Gambit No. 2 made Gambit appealing and interesting again.

Fix No. 4 is another dark and demented chapter of what should be a cable dark comedy.

Future Quest No. 2 caught me off guard with the apparent deaths of some Herculoids (my 10 year old self is weeping bitterly).

Green Arrow No. 2 reveals the Burned (who are visually interesting).

Green Lanterns No. 2 makes me wish some other enemy was the focus (Red Lantern fatigue *sight*)

Han Solo No. 2 made me dig Chewie even more, he truly has a heart of gold.

Invincible Iron Man No. 11 showcases more RiRi

Jade Street Protection Services No. 1 has a Puella Magi Madoka Magica meets America vibe.

Justice League Rebirth No. 1 had an Authority/Ultimates vibe (which is to be expected).  It reminded me of the Authority arc where Jenny Sparks died.

Moon Knight No. 4 is another trippy adventure of mentally disturbed Batman

Poe Dameron No. 4 had Hutts with mechanical legs! Also made me wonder how these Hutts would look on film.

Revival No. 41 unleashed hell on the poor casts.

Scarlet Witch No. 8 touches on Wiccan & Speed and their connection to Wanda.

Silver Surfers No. 5 acknowledges *groan* Original Sin & reintroduces Old Man Fury.

Spider-Woman No. 9 presented us with a Wendigo kitchen and a Civil War II tie-in *groan*.

Spidey No. 8 reminded me of the last Spider-Man flick for some odd reason.

Superman No. 2 reintroduces the Eradicator.

The Flintstones No. 1 had a dark comedy Adult Swim vibe.

The Punisher No. 3 continues to keep my interest in Frank Castle.

The Totally Awesome Hulk No. 8 is a bit chilling with Banner’s “coping” with his Hulklessness.

Throwaways No. 1 is a bit rough/brutal but shows promise.

Vote Loki No. 2 made me realize I would vote Loki if he was an actual candidate.

Nah, Just Nah:

Civil War II – X-Men No. 2 was utterly meh!

Tokyo Ghost No. 8 reminded me of Alan Moore & Old Millar in the sense that crude acts/scenes are used as plot devices.

Spider-Man 2099 No. 12 was utterly boring.
