Young Justice Season 2 Premiere: “Targets”

Season two of Young Justice kicks off with a semi-solo Red Arrow mission.  I’m not sure how good of an idea it is to kick off a new season with only half the members of the team featured, but that didn’t subtract from my enjoyment factor.  The country of Malaysia is in a civil war, and only Lex Luthor can bring peace to the land.  But the evil League of Shadows have a contract that calls for the prevention of the peace treaty being signed.

Red Arrow believes he has what it takes to stop Cheshire, Sports Master and the League of Shadows by himself.  But once it’s revealed that Ras Al Ghul is the one behind the League of Shadows’ contract, he realize he’s in over his head and recruits Aqualad for backup.

While this drama is taking place, our side story involves Superboy and Miss Martian attending their first day of high school. This introduces Superboy’s alter ego of “Conner Kent” from the comic books.  Miss Martian has a tryout for the cheerleading squad and Superboy makes an enemy out of what looks to be a big football player.  Since the show is based off of comic books my initial thought was who is this jock suppose to be?  Could it be future Teen Titan Cyborg?  You’ll have to forgive my lack of knowledge on the DC universe.  Growing up I always “Made Mine Marvel” so I rarely collected DC books.  However I don’t let that stop me from rooting for and supporting DC projects.  Especially when they’re done as nicely as Young Justice.

Red Arrow and Aqualad are able to protect the Malaysian officials long enough for the peace treaty to be signed.  Red Arrow even comes to respect his teenage peers.  Things are not all rosy however.  Per Sports Master, there appears to be a mole inside the Young Justice team.  For now Aqualad is going to keep this information to himself as he works to get to the bottom of it.  This should be a running subplot throughout the rest of the season.

The viewers are left with a surprise ending, which continues the mystery theme of just who is the real enemy behind all the threats the team has encountered thus far.  My current hope is our next episode incorporates the entire team on a mission. And my future hope is that Red Arrow finally comes to his senses and realizes that Young Justice is where he belongs permanently.
