The Recipe for the New Year (2019)

Pick of the Week (PotW):

Fantastic Four #5 is another love letter to the Dr. Who franchise from Dan Slott with their new headquarters essentially being a Tardis.  Love how eccentric yet proactive Reed has become with taking current DNA samples to safeguard them from doppelgangers  I am slightly surprised that Wundarr was invited to Ben’s bachelor party and even more surprised to see the famous Sweet Aunt Petunia.  Definitely tired of Galactus coming to devour Earth for the billionth time.  I am delighted that Doom seems to remain heroic but on his own vain terms.  Mike Allred, Aaron Kuder, and Adam Hughes did a superb job on this issue.

Coulda Been A Contender (For PotW):

Superior Spider-Man #1 seems like Otto has learned from his first romp as the Superior Spider-Man and toned down his unnecessary viciousness/aggression. I am a bit surprised that May Parker isn’t listed among Otto’s loves.  Since when has Stilt-Man been skilled at genetics/cloning? Must say that Stilt-Man will always be a Mort.  Kudos to the artistic team comprised of Mike Hawthorne, Wade Von Grawbadger, and Jodie Bellaire, who did an excellent job this issue.

Worthy Mentions:

X-Force #1 makes me wonder how young is Kable (Kid Cable) because he seems so puny size-wise compared to his grizzled older self. Nice to see the return of the Uncanny X-Force iteration of Deathlok with the laser claws, he had a humanity about him despite being a weapon and instrument of destruction.

Feeling Some Type of Way:

Nada for this week

The Meh Pile:

Uncanny X-Men #7 seems like an utter waste of Nate Grey! Legion or Proteus would have mad more sense and those antics fall in line with their characterizations.
