Recipe for the End of an Era

Pick of the Week (PotW):

Electric Warrior #1 is the perfect marriage of Steve Orlando’s creative mind and Travel Foreman’s epic line work.  The Hi-Fi colors definitely infused each panel with such life and vibrancy.  I love how it ties two future eras together seamlessly and won’t say more in fear of spoiling this for anyone.  I am already saddened that there’s only 5 issues left and 30 days until the next issue.

Coulda Been A Contender (For PotW):

Avengers #10 felt like geekery overload with the revival of the Winter Guard (whose lineup is just as impressive as the current Avengers roster), the return of a certain beloved SHIELD Agent, the formation of the Supreme Squadron of America, and gathering of what has to be the strangest Avengers team ever.  I am curious about Red Widow and who she might truly be with her ability to injure supernatural entities.  The bonding moment between Odin and Robbie was completely unexpected.

Birthright #33 makes me wonder if magic has any positive purpose or effect based on what we have seen so far with the Lost City of EA flashback, Brennan’s training on Kallista and Kallista’s own traumatic childhood.  I am curious to find out about the world before Lore rose to power: was the land always so savage and untamed?

Cosmic Ghost Rider #5 made me feel sorry for Thanos in the sense that he could not escape his dark destiny: he is always destined to be a monster and agent of Death,  I am surprised that Old Man Frank has the power to take down and end Thanos’ threat.  I wonder if he will take up Drax’s forgotten/abandoned role now.

Worthy Mentions:

Exiles #10 made me wonder if any version of Doom did not have Mommy Issues? The turn of events for TJ were unexpected yet welcomed.  A certain grizzled warrior makes an unexpected return.

Hawkman #6 impressed me with the interconnection between Carter’s past lives and curious about the final payoff when everything is revealed.

Mister Miracle #12 makes me wonder if Scott is ultimately the victim of a Black Mercy that locked him in an illusion that is slightly better than his reality so he would not desire to escape it.

Thor #7 saddens me a bit that Erika the Red was a throwaway character so to speak, she had the potential to be much more IMO.

Feeling Some Type of Way:

Nothing that odious this week

The Meh Pile:

Nothing that loathsome or odious this week.
