The Recipe for 10/3/18

Pick of the Week:

Champions #25 found it very interesting that RiRi was the only one that retained her memory while everyone else is lost in their new identities.  I am delighted that this story is set in Weird World because I dig that D & D setting (hence my love of  Birthright).  I found it interesting that Sam is a knight, RiRi is a paladin, Miles is an assassin/thief, Kamala is a mage, Amadeus is a barbarian (*confused shrug*), and Amaka is a druid.  I wonder what Viv will be, she looks like a mechanized golem from the preview art.  I am curious about how Eshu entered Weird World and became a warlord in such a relatively short time. Is Le Fay out of commission or occupied with something else?

Cosmic Ghost Rider #4 perfectly illustrates nature vs nurture in the case of this Thanos variant.  Is he still a monster because he is destined/cursed to become one or is Frank so broken and damaged to the point that he’s incapable to raising a decent person? I wonder what role Death plays in this since she is the one that seduced him to that role.  Part of me hates how much of a tank Thanos is these days, no one seems to be a viable threat to him or can muster the force needed to slow or put him down. One would think a cosmic powered Ghost Rider would be a formidable foe for him, but he falls like all the rest.

Worthy Mentions:

The Adventure of the Super Sons #3 reminded me of the zany, wacky, and kinetic tales that was the original Young Justice run .

Death of Inhumans #4 revealed the true origins of Vox and irked me a bit with the character’s death especially after his growth in the Royals miniseries.

Asgardians of the Galaxy #2 reminds us that even a well-meaning Loki is still a Loki (a source of chaos & mischief).  It also makes perfect sense that Thunderstrike is a dude-bro.

Infinity Wars – Sleepwalker #1 made me feel a bit old when I first encountered this character 27 years ago.  It revealed that only Earth was impacted by Gamora’s move (like her “father”, she is short-sighted).  Moments like this make me wonder why the Tribunal or some high level cosmic being does not intervene is put measures in place to prevent stuff like this from happening. Even Old Man Fury who replaced Uatu should have warned the capes about Gamora.

Wonder Woman Justice League Dark The Witching Hour #1 revealed how Diana was imbued with Hecate’s powers.  I wonder how her power is able to rival, or even counter the beings that are the original owners of magic.

Weapon H #8 definitely has a more tolerable version of Agger.  Seeing Clay & Co in Weird World is definitely a treat.  I still holding out for a Weird World anthology series.

Superior Octopus #1 continues to paint Otto in a more faltering light than Peter’s punching bag and revealed that he is the cause of the Spider-Geddon madness.

Shatterstar #1 makes sense that someone would insert himself on Mojo’s vacant throne (Mojo is still stuck on Earth). I am surprised that Ben has such a bland civilian life but found his tenants to be very interesting.

Nightwing #50 reminds me of the Phineas Gage in the sense that brain trauma resulted in a personality shift.  I hope this development has a lasting impact on the character.

Feeling Some Type of Way:

Nothing that loathsome or odious this week.
