The Recipe for 8/15/18

Picks of the Week:

Nothing wowed me this week…

Worthy Mentions:

Extermination #1 ushered the umpteenth X-related Mega Event that exacerbates by the overall event fatigue.  On the bright side, Pepe Larraz and Marte Garcia gave us some clean lines and vibrant color: together giving us some jaw-dropping art.  The two deaths were meh IMO because time traveling & supernatural characters don’t stay dead for long in X-Books.

Astonishing X-Men Annual #1 had the fantastic art of one of my personal faves, Travel Foreman.  His work is a real treat.  Adult Archangel is such a convoluted mess at this point much like Cable.  I preferred what Remender had done with him by merging his two personas, but I don’t dig the switch between his personas like his initial X-Force days. Seems like Professor Xavier as X has finally embraced his long hidden dark side and shed his fatherly saint facade.

Flavor #4 continues to have that Battle Chef Brigade vibe.  I would love to see this as an animated series at some point.

Justice League #6 continues to set the bar on how super villains should operate and their overall is so human and natural.  Luthor’s backslide into villainy continues to be incredibly satisfying.  I wonder how the last panel will play out the next issue.

Rumble II #6 lost of bit of steam but David Rubin’s artwork is definitely perfect for all the monstrosities in John Arcudi’s script.

The Weatherman #3 is everything that both film versions of Total Recall should have been in terms of suspense, action, and intrigue.

Multiple Man #3 made me wish that the super powered dupes (specifically the Warlock-Cable Madrox & the Sorcerer Madrox) were more than throwaway characters.

Gideon Falls #6 reminded me of what horror used to be in the film genre.  It had some real trippy and disturbing scenes instead of relying on excessive gore and cheap frights.

Feeling Some Type of Way:

No Feels for this week

The Meh Pile:

Nothing that loathsome or odious this week.
