The Recipe for 8/1/18

Picks of the Week:

Cosmic Ghost Rider #2 gave us an unexpected case of free will vs destiny. Much like the Thanos series penned by Jason Aaron, the reader is once again presented the idea that Thanos didn’t have a choice and will become a nihilistic and remorseless murderer.  Frank’s determination is highlighted in his attempt to give infant Thanos a chance at becoming a decent individual and escape his monstrous fate.  Thanos still reminds me of Thomas (son of death) from the Regular Show.  It would be interesting to see if broken and emotionally scarred Frank Castle could raise a normal child.

Immortal Hulk #4 still reminds me of that old Fox series, Werewolf.  I am also glad that the true reveal wasn’t ruined by the mainstream media.  I wonder if the other Gamma Irradiated characters would be cursed with a similar fate.  Hulk & Sasquatch remind me of Wonder Man (and other Ionic Beings) in the sense that their nature guarantees that they will never experience a true death.  I wonder if the Hulk will be able to defeat or contain a being which is more or less his equal.

Astonishing X-Men #14 shows us what Pete has been up to since his failed wedding. I must say visually a bearded Pete is the best Pete.  I am definitely surprised that Forge is handling the technical aspect of Dazzler’s show (always figured that he works for the government whenever he’s not involved in X-Men related messes).  This lineup and plot is already more interesting than the previous run. Loved that Allison had her stuff more together than the fellas, they were sloppy and in dire need of her aid.

Worthy Mentions:

Death of the Inhumans #2 addressed all of my issues with the first issue.  Part of me wished that there was a Zero issue that showed us what happened to give a true sense of this Kree tribe.  The inconsistency with the exact power of Black Bolt’s voice irks me.  Why would covering his mouth stop the blast?

Infinity Wars #1 ushers in yet another mega event (groan) at least we are introduced to Loki Odinson.  Part of me is hoping to see more of him somehow, he is far too interesting to be a throwaway character.

Hunt for Wolverine – Lost Weapon #4 made me which this lineup became an actual super hero team because they worked so well together.

The Unexpected #3 revealed more about Elligh and his people’s connection to Nth Metal.  I wonder if Hawkman will make an appearance due to his connection to Nth Metal

Feeling Some Type of Way:
