The Recipe for 5/9/18

Pick of the Week:
Batman – White Knight #8 gave us a very satisfying ending but I wonder what are the implications of the reveal at the end? DC needs to animate this story next and retain Murphy’s art style or Timm’s art style.  The series overall felt like a virtual reincarnation of Batman the Animated Series with a dash of Batman Beyond – Return of the Joker.  I was surprised to see Baby Doll and I wonder how I missed her before: it ultimately points back to Killer Croc’s and Baby Doll’s relationship.

Despicable Deadpool #300 reminds us of how broken Wade is.  His coping mechanism seems to be doubling down on bad decisions during his heavy trials.  It also showed that his good deeds couldn’t fill the emptiness in his soul or replace actually loving himself.  Wonder how resetting to that time he tangled with Black Tom will impact the stories going forward.  Wade was on the cusp of becoming a sorta decent person at that point, he wasn’t the Wade who was the voice of reason on Archangel’s X-Force or the Wade who mentored  Evan Sabnur.

Worthy Mentions:

Exiles #3 makes me wonder what purpose will Lil Wolvie serve since he isn’t suitable for combat situations.  Will he be a shonen hero and reach opponents with his heart and convert them into allies.

Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #44 surprised me because I didn’t realize that Arkillo and Guy now have a casual friendly relationship similar to the one shared by Flint Marko and Ben Grimm.  They are seriously making the Darkstar into a serious threat.  I wonder if Zod & company will be any help at all?

Isola #2 reminded me of Ale Garza’s Ninja Boy visually but the theme is definitely immersed in Studio Ghibli.  The bit with the wolves felt like Monoke Hime.

Runaways #9 confirmed my suspicion about “Doom” and makes me wonder if the magic cupcake makes the mind young as well.  Could Molly’s bestie possibly be some crazy old lady trapped in a child’s body.  I also wonder why Vic is so reluctant to regain a body, is remaining a head some sort of penance for all the wrong he committed in the Vision series.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #32 reminded me of one of those 60’s action  cartoons in art style and execution.

The Meh Pile:

Nothing that horrid & foul has polluted the pull list.
