The Recipe for 4/18/18

Pick of the Week:
Ms. Marvel #29 featured the return of a fan favorite, Bruno and introduced a potential enemy in the form of Kaylee Kirk.  I enjoyed how this issue juggled the birth of Malik Theodore Khan, Kamala’s first kiss & acknowledgement of her feelings for Bruno, Bruno’s reintroduction into the group, the introduction of Kaylee Kirk without feeling jumbled or confusing.  It actually felt a bit short and left me wanting more.  I am curious to see what knowledge Bruno has accumulated in Wakanda and how he will use it as part of Team Marvel.

Infinity Countdown #2 made the list due to Aaron Kuder’s art alone.  There’s something magical about his version of Gamora, Rocket, and Groot.  The story was satisfying as well.  Loved the banter between Groot and Scar as well as Drax’s nonchalant reaction to the new Groot.  Glad that the Rider Brothers were able to have a reunion, part of me wonders if Robbie is doomed to die so soon after rediscovering his brother.  Totally geeked out when I saw the return of the Galactus spaceship.  I am surprised that Ultron is able to transform a cosmic being into one of his drones, didn’t think cosmic beings were susceptible to his infection.

Batman – Creature of the Night #3 continues to be the most logical version of Bruce IMO.  This issue also dispelled my theory that Batman was a tulpa or thoughtform created by a hurting Bruce.  The introduction of Thomas made the story more heart rending IMO.  I was surprised to discover that someone close to Bruce betrayed him and his trust.

Worthy Mentions:

Black Panther #172 made me wonder if T’Challa and Ororo would officially tie the knot again.  I am glad that their relationship mended in such an organic way because I didn’t dig how some writers played T’Challa like some chump post breakup.

Mister Miracle #8 showed us Scott juggle fatherhood with his other duties.  Think the most insidious part of this whole narrative is the possibility that this is an illusion and the baby isn’t real.

Moonshine #9 still feels like a supernatural version of Boardwalk Empire.  The comic feels like a perfect fit for a transition into a television series.

Weapon H #2 made me shudder to think if Roxxon was ever able to create an army of Ur-Wendigos.  The super Wendigo remind me of the werewolves from Dog Soldiers in terms of ferocity and raw power.  Imagine if Roxxon was able to breed more Ur-Wendigos and feed them Hulk Meat…

The Meh Pile:

Nothing that horrid & foul has polluted the pull list.
