In Son of Zorn: “The Battle of Thanksgiving,” Zorn crashes Edie’s Thanksgiving dinner to prove to her mother that he’s mature.

Son of Zorn’s “The Battle of Thanksgiving” begins with Edie, Alan, and Craig preparing to race in a Thanksgiving race. We learn that Zorn isn’t invited over for Thanksgiving dinner because Edie’s mother, Roberta, will be attending. Apparently, Zorn and Roberta have a developed a fierce rivalry over the years. It doesn’t surprise me that Zorn would ruffle the feathers of a mother-in-law, especially after he knocks over all the participants in the race.

Don’t worry about Zorn, because he’s got his own plans for Thanksgiving — sitting alone at work. He’s not the only person looking to escape the holiday, as his boss Linda is there as well. She hates Thanksgiving after growing up on a farm. After giving a quick call to Dr. Klorpins about his runner’s itch, Zorn decides to crash the family dinner.

Edie is experiencing anxiety about her mother’s visit. Roberta believes Edie threw her life away to run off to Zephyria with Zorn. Edie wants to prove Roberta wrong. Zorn shows up at the front door dressed as Mr. Rodgers, with the classic line of “C’mon, we both knew I was coming.”

Surprisingly, Roberta welcomes Zorn to dinner. As she says, “Food’s already dead. It’s not like he can kill it.” Zorn is set to prove he’s a changed man. He has a real job, but Roberta questions whether he’s considered wearing pants. This leads Craig to offer his up to Zorn, which goes about as well as can be expected.

After discovering that learning is considered a sex crime on Zephyria, Roberta mentions she’s seen a documentary on Zorn’s homeland. Narrated by Serial‘s Sarah Koenig, “The Mists of Brutality” features Vulchazor, the Protector of Zephyria, and his nemesis Zorn. Now that’s one documentary I would love to watch, especially with Koenig narrating. Zorn shows his displeasure with the series as he hurls his sword through the TV.

Roberta retreats to Alan’s bedroom, but not before Zorn offers her a slice of his special pie. What makes it so special is it’s poisonous, as Zorn can’t recall which berries are safe and which aren’t. “If the berry is yellow, you’re not OK fella.”

Dr. Klorpins (voiced by Nick Offerman) has a home remedy to bring a person back from the dead. The cure involves kissing the deceased, so Zorn recruits Alan and Craig for help. Craig is chosen for the lip-lock, which ends up working, minus Edie walking in to witness everything.

Before Roberta leaves, she tries to bribe Alan to never speak to Zorn again. Edie has had enough and finally stands up to her mother. The family ends the night with dinner at Zorn’s.

Son of Zorn uses “The Battle of Thanksgiving” to frame another hilarious episode. As much as they fuss and fight, this blended family will always have each other’s back.
