On the eve of All-New Marvel NOW!, Marvel releases one of their “Point One” comics.  The Point One’s are an anthology of short stories from various comics launching during the new directive.  Consider it a sneak peek at what’s to come.

What I Liked

It was a smart choice by the creative team to have Loki as the centerpiece of the book.  With his popularity at an all-time high following The Avengers and Thor: The Dark World movies, new readers may be encouraged to check this out.

Dan Slott and Mike Allred bring a comical sci-fi take to Silver Surfer.  The Kree plot on “invading” Earth.   Black Widow looks to clear up the red on her ledger.  The new Ms. Marvel faces challenges not only from villains but also from her personal life.  The Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. negotiate a new working relationship.

The most surprising story came from Ms. Marvel.  That has to do with her being a brand new character.  The team of G. Willow Wilson and Adrian Alphona did a fine job of showing the challenges she faces on this new journey in her life.

What I Didn’t Like

With each story kept short (save for Loki’s quest) there was not much time to dislike anything.  One thing that nagged at me was how similar Lee Garbett made Loki to Tom Hiddleston.  Yet no one tries to make Thor look like Chris Hemsworth.

Summary

If you want a look at what many of your All-New Marvel NOW! titles will have in store, then you should check this out.  There are some comics not featured (New Warriors, All-New X-Factor, etc.) so there is still much to look forward to over the next few months.
