The Scary Movie Bucketlist

Michael_MyersArticle By Mista Bamf–

From time to time, I am asked my opinions on movies.  Mostly because I am a genius and the shit but I do digress.  Anyway as I’ve stated before on the KLIQNation Podcast, I love the Horror movie genre and I feel when done correctly they are some of the best movies.  If I had to create a bucketlist of the essential horror movies, these would make up my Top 5.

5) The Orphanage (El Orfanato) 2007
A spanish language film directed by J.A. Bayona that relies on suspense rather than gore to scare the hell out of you. It follows a mother’s desperate search for her son who disappears during a party at her and her husband’s newly purchased orphanage, where she once lived. It has an incredible, heart wrenching but beautiful ending that may leave you in tears.

4) Jaws (1975)
If you weren’t afraid of swimming in the ocean, after watching this you’ll be afraid to swim in the local pool. Directed by the mighty Steven Spielberg, and often credited as being the first summer blockbuster movie, Jaws shows what happens when man takes on animal.

3) Halloween (1978)
The template for the modern slasher movie. Directed by John Carpenter, with a killer who has no rhyme, reason, or motive to kill. Michael Myers is a relentless force that is “pure and simple evil”.

2) The Thing (1982)
Another John Carpenter classic. A movie where the monster is literally us, the alien’s in The Thing defense mechanism is the ability to mimic in living being so from scene to scene you don’t know who to trust or who to fry with your flame thrower.

1) The Exorcist (1973)
This is a tale of good vs. evil that’s as old as time itself. Directed by William Friedkin, The Exorcist is about the demonic possession of a little girl and the battle for her soul. Its still the scariest movie ever made.

There you have it.  This being the digital age I know I’m bound to hear back from listeners and readers on this subject.  Please leave comments (Tim likes that!) or send me comments on twitter–@MistaBamf.  If you’re lucky I may tweet back…I doubt it but I may.
