New Animated Show “Star Wars Rebels” to Debut on Disney XD Fall 2014

After Star Wars: The Clone Wars was announced to be canceled, many of it’s fans were left wondering if there would be a replacement for it.  Once Disney purchased Lucasfilm, it was inevitable that some type of Star Wars-programming would make it’s way to a Disney television channel.

Today we learned what that show and channel will be.  Star Wars Rebels will premiere on Disney XD in Fall 2014.  It will take place between Episodes III and IV, and will included many of the same people that worked on Clone Wars.

The official announcement from Lucas film reads,

“The action-filled series is set between the events of Episode III and IV – an era spanning almost two decades never-before explored on-screen. Star Wars Rebels takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape. Details about the show are a closely guarded secret at this point.”

My only question is what type of animation will Rebels use?  Will it be in the same vein of animation as Clone Wars?

What are your thoughts on Star Wars Rebels?  Do you think it will carry on the strong tradition from Star Wars: The Clone Wars?

Below is video from StarWars.com detailing more information on the new project.
