Superior Spider-Man #6 Review

*SPOILER FREE REVIEW*

Writer:  Dan Slott
Penciler:  Humberto Ramos
Inker:  Victor Olazaba
Color Art:  Edgar Delgado

It’s Humberto Ramos’ turn on art duties for this next arc on Superior Spider-Man.  In #6 Spider-Man has to stop the duo of new pranksters Screwball and Jester as they terrorize J. Jonah Jameson and the citizens of New York City.  Plus Earth’s Mightiest Heroes start to question this “Superior” Spider-Man.

What I Liked

Humberto Ramos brings energy and a sense of fun to his Spider-Man comics.  Everyone is drawn in a cartoonish fashion, but not in a way that takes away from the reading experience.

I feel that Dan Slott’s best writing comes in the scenes involving Peter Parker and his tutor Anna Maria Marconi.  This is the only time we get to see Otto/Peter behave in a caring manner.  We also see more of Otto’s memories growing up as a kid, and the events that helped shape him into the type of man he grew up to be.

What I Didn’t Like

We’ve seen Otto use brutal force against his foes as Superior Spider-Man was launched.  In issue one we saw that Peter was able to stop Otto from using deadly force.  These last two issues Peter has been nowhere to be found.  Part of that could be explained away in this issue, but it is still seems inconsistent that one minute Peter would be able to exert control, and others he would not.

At least it seems that there will finally be repercussions for Otto’s actions in upcoming issues.

Summary

Superior Spider-Man remains one of my favorite Marvel NOW! books.  I want to see what happens as more characters start to confront this new  “Superior” Spider-Man about his actions.  Everyone is not a fan of these violent actions like J. Jonah Jameson is.  Plus, according to Dan Slott himself (via a Tweet to me), 90’s fan favorite villain/vigilante Cardiac will be making an appearance in #7 and #8!
