Lucasfilm Says “Bye Bye Star Wars: The Clone Wars?”

With Disney purchasing Lucasfilm last year, many people speculated that would be the end of Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network.  Today, we got more clarification from StarWars.com.  From the website….

“After five highly successful and critically acclaimed seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, we feel the time has come to wind down the series. While the studio is no longer producing new episodes for Cartoon Network, we’re continuing production on new Clone Wars story arcs that promise to be some of the most thrilling adventures ever seen. Stay tuned for more information on where fans can soon find this bonus content. In the video below, Supervising Director Dave Filoni offers a peek of what is to come in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.”

I initially was saddened to hear the news that Clone Wars would soon be ending.  Upon further thought, Clone Wars has been on television for five seasons, with a sixth on the way.  That is a lot longer than other animated shows I’ve loved that have been canceled prematurely (cranes head over at Young Justice and The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes).  Six seasons is plenty of time in today’s television marketplace.  Plus they’ve found a way to explain Ahsoka’s absence from Episode III.  I can see season six progressing the story closer to the beginning of Episode III and then calling it quits.  We all knew the series would have to end eventually.

What are your thoughts on these recent Star Wars developments?
