All-New X-Men #2 Review

*SPOILER FREE REVIEW*

Writer:  Brian Michael Bendis
Pencils:  Stuart Immonen

In the last issue of All-New X-Men, Beast has traveled back in time to convince the original teen X-Men (Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Iceman, and Angel) to travel back to the present day in hopes that they can stop Cyclops from continuing on his mutant revolution.  Is Beast successful in getting the kids to return with him?  I’ll let you guess for yourself, but it is safe to say this would be a pretty short-lived title if they decided to stay put.

What I Liked

The interplay between the X-Men of the past and present.  It’s very reminiscent of Back To The Future and in a good way.  Wolverine’s reaction to seeing Jean Grey alive is what you would expect from him.  I went into this series not caring about the original X-Men.  I never read any of their stories since they took place before I started reading comic books.  Bendis has me intrigued on how everyone will react to seeing their younger/older selves.  Will every encounter be positive?  As we see in this issue, some encounters are even hilarious.  I also enjoyed Jean Grey’s hairstyle.  It looked like something right out of the ’70s and the I Love Lucy show.

What I Didn’t Like

Only thing this issue was lacking was present-day Cyclops and his revolution.  Even though it was funny seeing what Jean Grey did to Wolverine, it was hard to take seriously considering she is still a novice when it comes to her powers.

Another fine issue of All-New X-Men.  The story is moving along, and next issue we should get an encounter between the original X-Men and Cyclops’ mutant extremists.  Will seeing his younger, more innocent self have any influence on Cyclops?
