AvX Consequences #4 Review

*SPOILER FREE REVIEW*

Script:  Kieron Gillen
Pencils:  Mark Brooks

I have to say it…..I’ve been totally impressed with the AvX Consequences mini-series.  I normally avoid titles that spin out of event books.  They are used to transition characters onto their next status quo and do not offer much in terms of story.  AvX Consequences is no different, but the reason I care so much is because of my investment in the world of X-Men.  I want to see what happens to Scott Summers and if he will travel down the road to redemption.  As the story progresses, I now also want to see where the Phoenix Five and Extinction Team go from here.

What I Liked

There is a lot to like in this book.  Lots of revelations.  With there being one more issue before the series concludes, it makes sense that things start approaching their end game.  Different alliances are formed, secrets are revealed, and seeds are planted for future stories.  Kieron Gillen and Mark Brooks form a nice team on the creative side.  Gillen will be moving on to write Iron Man in Marvel NOW!  I’m not sure what plans Marvel has for Mark Brooks however.  Hopefully he gets solid work going forward.

I tried to find one story arc that stood out from the rest, and I really can’t choose one over the other.  Even the arcs that do not get as much page space as others left me wanting to know more.

What I Didn’t Like

The only downside for me is I’m not familiar with some of the characters highlighted.  For example, Abigail Brand from S.W.O.R.D., Danger, and Magik.  Their motives are not as clear to me since I have not read many stories involving them in the last few years.  Thankfully it does not take away from the overall story.

With one more issue to go, what will be the fate of Cyclops, the Phoenix Five, and the Extinction Team?  This should continue the transition into the new Marvel NOW!
