X-Men: Days of Future Past Confirmed as First Class Sequel

After rumors started circulating around the Internet of 20th Century FOX trademarking the phrase “Days of Future Past” for a potential title for the sequel to X-Men: First Class, IGN has confirmed through an interview with director Bryan Singer that will indeed be the title – X-Men: Days of Future Past.

“Days of Future Past” is one of the most iconic X-Men stories ever.  Written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by John Byrne, it deals with the X-Men being faced with a dark future where they are hunted, killed, and enslaved in internment camps.  There is a specific moment in time that sparks this hellish future, and it’s up to the X-Men to stop it from happening.

Bryan Singer mentions in the video above that the plan is to weave all the movies under the “X-Men” umbrella into one, cohesive family.  Much like Marvel Studios has done with their Avengers-related movies. This is a smart move of course.  That’s one thing that has set the Marvel Studios movies above the rest. Everything is inter-connected.

So now let’s get to speculating how the X-Men movies will be tied together.  With “Days of Future Past” dealing with time traveling, lots of possibilities are now open.  The First Class squad can jump to the future and encounter the cast from X-Men, X-Men 2 and X-Men: Last Stand.  I see Singer introducing Bishop, a time-traveling mutant from the future who comes to warn the X-Men of their potential fates.  Then the movie can incorporate jumping back and forth between the past, present and future.  And with any adventure that involves time-traveling, one or more characters either have to get left in the past, or left in the future.  Could young Charles Xavier (played by James McAvoy) meet his bald counterpart (played by Patrick Stewart) in the future?  Same for the Magneto’s?  Very possible.

Make sure to let your thoughts known in the Comments section below.  Do you believe “Days of Future Past” can be made into a viable movie?  Or do you have doubts that Claremont’s iconic story can be transferred to the big screen?

  • Sounds exciting! Bryan’s plan is very ambitious considering the huge continuity problems with the movies

    • For Bryan to even attempt to tackle the continuity problems gets him major props in my book.  I think he can do just enough where it makes sense in the end

  • It can be done – I just hope it can be done well

    • I’m going to give Bryan Singer the benefit of the doubt and say that yes, he can do it. He better lol

  • oh hell yes.   I cannot fuckin’ waiting to see what they do with this!
