The Doktor’s Reviews for 6/1/16

PaperGirls_06-1

Picks of the Week:

A-Force No. 6

Singularity is such an innocent and endearing character, especially the scene where she complemented a raging Shulk.  Didn’t realize that Nico’s magicks was potent enough to make a Thor unworthy.

All New Wolverine No. 9

I appreciate this book over the teen roadtrip X-Book because it fleshes out Laura.  It is heart breaking on one level to see Laura interact with a variant of her deceased “dad”.  Her “little” sister is the perfect straight man for her strange world & encounters.

Paper Girls No. 6

I am curious about how Time Travel works in this universe, the girls traveling through time create a divergent timeline where Erin doesn’t remember their adventure.  It was entertaining to see the girls interact with 2016.

Nowhere Men No. 10

I enjoy the progress that Susan has been making and eager to see what’s next phase of evolution.  The book has an overall corporate Ultimate Fantastic Four vibe about it.  Was not expecting to see that “ape” at all.

Superman – Rebirth No. 1

The Superman I grew up with has returned! It is interesting to see this version interact in Nu52 Clark’s space.

Batman – Rebirth No. 1

Found out something new about Calendar Man (then again I am a lapsed Bat fan… haven’t collected seriously since Knightfall).  Lark is a promising addition to the Bat Family.

Green Lanterns – Rebirth No. 1

Not too familiar with these rookie Lanterns but the initial issues make me willing to invest time in GL.  Haven’t been interested in GL since Kyle Raynor wielded the ring.

Green Arrow – Rebirth No. 1

Connor Hawke was my GA growing up.  The overall vibe of the books makes me willing to invest in his dad’s adventures.

Hellboy In Hell No. 10

Mignola’s swan song… makes me wonder how the changes in Hell will impact the living world.

Worth the read:

All New All Different Avengers No. 10 – the interaction between Nadia & Janet made the book IMO.

Amazing Spider-Man No. 13 gave us another pointless super hero brawl.

Carbon Grey Omnibus reminds me of a mix of Heavy Metal, Metabaron & European comics.

Casanova – Acedia No. 5 is interesting in the sense that the big bad shifted from being rooted in science to being rooted in the occult.

Civil War II No. 1 irked me with the two deaths.

Contest of Champions No. 9 brought the brilliant idea of making Black Widow, Iron Spider.

Deadpool No. 13 was thrown off by Typhoid Mary and her history with Wade.

Invincible Iron Man No. 10 lost steam IMO and was a tad meh

Moon Knight No. 3 has the same trippy vibe of the Ellis-Shalvey run.

Old Man Logan No. 7 replicates the vibe of the original miniseries without the Old Millar vibe.

Spider-Man 2099 No. 11 was meh.

Spider-Woman No. 8 has done what Spider-Man has failed to do on some level, balance family and super heroics.

Spider-Women – Omega No. 1 was a satisfying end to an enjoyable miniseries.

The Punisher No. 2 has done the unthinkable… made me interested in a Punisher book.

X-Men ‘92 No. 4 makes me yearn to see this animated.

Nah, Just Nah:

Nothing was so odious/putrid/wretched this week!
