Picks of the Week:

Captain America – Sam Wilson No. 7

I loved the interaction between Barnes and Wilson, they functioned like a well-oiled machine.  It was great to see the return of Young Steve Rogers (despite the method feeling too deus ex machina). My only regret is that Acuna didn’t draw the entire issue.

Darth Vader No. 18

The murderous droid duo continue to steal the show.  They need their own series ASAP! I also enjoy the continued fleshing out of Vader’s character.  This Vader is a capable leader, brilliant tactician, and able to stand on his own without Palpatine.

Drax No. 5

It is nice to see an intelligent Fin Fang Foom again.  CM Punk and Cullen Bunn has done a great job with this series.  It is a nice blend of comedy and action.  It feels like a Brock Sampson focused episode of the Venture Brothers set on an alien world, with Drax playing Brock Sampson and Terrax playing Henchman 24.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur No. 5

Lunella must be up there in the list of Marvel mega brains because she developed a working T-Mist detector.  Genius like Forge and Hank McCoy have failed to create such a beneficial tool.  The Killer Folk annoyed me at first but they are definitely wearing me down with their antics.  They have eclipsed the Yancy Street Gang in my book.

TMNT Deviation

It was such an enjoyable book, it was nice to see how everyone coped with the Turtles falling under Saki’s influence. I was completely surprised by who took out the Shredder in the end. Part of me missed seeing the unstoppable knuckleheads, Bebop and Rocksteady, but overall I loved this issue.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl No. 6

A squirrel version of Wolverine, a fangirl villain with second knockoff of super hero items, and modified Doombots! This issue is all sorts of YAAAAS!

On the Fence:

All New X-Men No. 7 is interesting but Toad as the major villain seems too much of a stretch.

Black Science No. 21 fell flat, feels like the momentum of previous issues have died down.

Daredevil No. 5 is the end of an utterly boring and droll character, Ten Fingers. This is the only high point of the arc IMO.

Four Eyes No. 3 is an interesting series but too much of a slow burn. I might enjoy it more in trade format.

Max Ride – Ultimate Ride No. 5 reminds me of the artificial Gargoyles clan in Disney’s Gargoyles.

PowerLines No. 1 has an interesting premise but it came off as stereotypical and cliche.

Revival No. 38 is an interesting series and remix of the zombie idea but became a slow burn.

Wayward No. 15 is an interesting remix of Japanese mythology but probably more potent in trade format.

X-Men 92 No. 1 made the 12 year old in me happy but the 35 year old is not impressed.

Nah, Just Nah:

Amazing Spider-Man No. 1.4 and Hercules No. 5 are totally unappealing IMO! They have a fantastic art but the stories are extra flat.

A married pleasantly plump collection of flesh, blood, bones, tears, & hope
