ALL-NEW, ALL-DIFFERENT Marvel Creative Team Fantasy Booking

During this weekend’s Special Edition NYC, Marvel announced their first comic for their All-New, All-Different Marvel initiative.  The current Miles Morales – Ultimate Spider-Man creative team of Brian Michael Bendis and Dave Marquez are launching Invincible Iron Man.  With the success of the Iron Man films and Robert Downey, Jr. being the face of Marvel Studios, Marvel has finally decided to put an emphasis on Tony Stark in the comics.

The announcement was made on USA Today, and can be read in it’s entirety here.  I’m mad at myself for not picking up on the signs that Bendis would be writing Iron Man.  Iron Man was the focal point of the two All-New, All-Different teasers.  Also, Bendis was leaving the X-Men books to take on new projects.  The clues couldn’t have been more clearer.

So, with that in mind, I decided to do some fantasy booking to predict who would be the creative teams on more unannounced comics.  We know there will be 50-60 new #1’s once Secret Wars concludes.  These guesses were based off of interviews, rumors, and good ol’ connecting the dots.  Marvel has various creators under exclusive contracts, so a good number of my choices will consist of those individuals. Let’s see how accurate I turn out to be.

INVINCIBLE IRON MAN
WRITER:  BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS
ARTIST:  DAVE MARQUEZ
*CONFIRMED*

All-New X-Men #1 large cover

WRITER:  SAM HUMPHRIES (with DENNIS HOPELESS also writing an X-spinoff)
ARTIST:  SARA PICHELLI

I remember reading an interview with Bendis, where he stated that he was good friends with the person taking over the X-Men, and was a fan of what they had planned for Marvel’s mutants.  Bendis and Sam Humphries worked together on The Black Vortex crossover between Guardians of the Galaxy and X-Men.  Plus, Humphries helped launch Uncanny X-Force during Marvel NOW!.  I can also see Dennis Hopeless being heavily involved in the X-line as well.

Sara Pichelli had personal issues that kept her from contributing much in 2014.  Hopefully we’ll see more of her beautiful artwork once the dust settles from Secret Wars.

Another prediction regarding the X-Men:  the original X-Men will somehow remain in the main Marvel universe and become the de-facto team.  Their adult counterparts will disappear, thereby de-aging the characters.

All-New All-Different Avengers

WRITER:  MARK WAID
ARTIST:  MAHMUD ASRAR

This hasn’t been confirmed, but everyone is assuming this will be the Avengers creative team after they teamed up on the Free Comic Book Day issue.  I wouldn’t be mad at these choices.  After Jonathan Hickman’s two-year epic story on Avengers/New Avengers, I’m sure Marvel wants his replacement to go the opposite route and tell simpler stories.  Especially with teenage members Ms. Marvel, Nova, and Miles Morales.

Daredevil_65

WRITER:  CHARLES SOULE
ARTIST:  MIKE DEODATO

Charles Soule is a lawyer, so of course he would write Marvel’s premiere superhero lawyer right?  At least that is everyone’s logic when it comes to Daredevil‘s next writer.

With the success of the Daredevil Netflix series being grim and gritty, my thought is Marvel will want an artist who can portray that sort of thing on its pages.  Mike Deodato seems a perfect match.

Miles Morales The Ultimate Spider-Man #1 cover art

MILES MORALES SPIDER-MAN
WRITER:  JEFF LEMIRE
ARTIST:  ROB GUILLORY

Time to throw some wildcards into the equation.  Jeff Lemire is under an exclusive contract with Marvel (there must be some provisions for his Valiant work).  So far, he only has All-New Hawkeye on his resume.  It’s time to add another book to it.

I can see Marvel wanting to give someone else a chance at Miles, and since Bendis will be busy with Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and possibly one more comic (I’ll get to this in a moment), what better time than to let Lemire take a crack at another high-profile gig.  His work on the Image book Descender shows he can handle writing a teen protagonist, even if that person was an android.

Rob Guillory has provided art on a couple of short stories recently, most notably the Thor Annual with writer C. M. Punk.  With Chew nearing it’s end, its the perfect opportunity to make a splash with launching a new Miles Morales #1 issue.

Hulk-marvel-comics-4515330-500-374

ALL-NEW HULK
WRITER:  AL EWING
ARTIST:  LEE GARBETT

So far, we know there will be an All-New Hulk in the Marvel universe that isn’t Bruce Banner.  Plus, Axel Alonso says that the reveal will cause the same kind of controversy that the new female Thor caused.  I’ve read two rumors regarding the new Hulk.  One rumor said the new Hulk would be Amadeus Cho and the creative team would be Greg Pak (co-creator of Cho) and Frank Cho.  The other rumor is Ultimate Reed Richards will become the new Hulk.

I’m not sure how controversial those choices would be, unless people would be pissed about an Asian Hulk.  I’ll say that both guesses are inaccurate and go with the team of Al Ewing and Lee Garbett reuniting again (they were on Loki: Agent of ASGARD).  Ewing’s Loki was so complex and entertaining all at the same time.  I can see him coming up with something out of left field for Hulk.

Oh, and since Marvel is wanting to have their movie popularity transfer over to the comics, what better way than by the Bruce Banner/Black Widow romance appearing in the comics?  And also by having Black Widow become a Hulk?

Inhuman Annual #1 cover

INHUMANS/INHUMAN/UNCANNY INHUMANS (Whichever title they decide to go with
WRITER
:  CHARLES SOULE
ARTIST:  RYAN STEGMAN

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.  Charles Soule and Ryan Stegman make a great team on the Inhumans.

Heroes_for_Hire

ALL-NEW DEFENDERS
WRITER:  BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS
ARTIST:  VALERIO SCHITI

Remember earlier when I mentioned another Bendis book?  With Defenders on the horizon for Netflix, it is only a matter of time before they make their return in the Marvel comics as well.  Bendis has been wanting to write a Heroes for Hire comic for the longest time.  Just change the name and Heroes for Hire becomes Defenders.

Valerio Schiti has teamed with Bendis on Guardians of the Galaxy while also doing a few issues of Mighty Avengers.  So he is already familiar with illustrating Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

X-23

ALL-NEW WOLVERINE
WRITER:  CHARLES SOULE
ARTIST:  NICK BRADSHAW

During interviews leading up to the weekly Wolverines series, Soule mentioned that he was involved with the “Wolverine” planning for at least the next year.  That would line up perfectly for him to end Wolverines by having X-23 graduate to full-time Wolverine, then continue her adventures in an all-new solo series.

As for Nick Bradshaw, he penciled the first issue of Wolverines so he could continue by aiding X-23 in her solo book.

Black Panther

BLACK PANTHER
WRITER:  DAVID WALKER
ARTIST:  OLIVIER COIPEL

David Walker has made a name for himself on the Dynamite series Shaft.  With DC’s “DC YOU” replacing the New 52, Walker will be helping to launch Cyborg in his first ever solo series.  Marvel is taking advantage of Secret Wars by bringing in newer talent and allowing them to tell short stories, which is usually their way of letting their creators get their feet wet in the Marvel universe.  Walker could be set up to tell the stories of the Big 2’s highest profile black heroes.

Olivier Coipel might be one of my favorite artists of all time.  I’d love to see him help launch Black Panther.  Plus, he’s a superstar name, which would help raise the profile of Black Panther and get more readers to check him out.

We also can’t forget that Black Panther will be making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in next year’s Captain America: Civil War, with his own film set to premiere in 2018.

doctor-strange-season-one

DOCTOR STRANGE
WRITER:  JAMES ROBINSON
ARTIST:  ANDREA SORRENTINO

Another hero making his movie debut soon, it is only a matter of time before Doctor Strange returns in a solo comic.  Axel Alonso has made it known in CBR interviews that they’ve had a writer for Doctor Strange for awhile, and were only searching for an artist.  My original choice as writer was Kieron Gillen, but he says he’s taking a break from Marvel after Secret Wars.  James Robinson will need a book or two to write, and his take on Doctor Strange could be what Marvel is looking for.

Doctor Strange needs an artist who can make the mystical leap off the page.  After seeing what Andrea Sorrentino did in the annuals for All-New X-Men and Uncanny X-Men, he was made to render the supernatural.

So what do you think of my selections?  Any that ring true to you?  Or am I way off?  Let me know in the Comments below, while also sharing who you would like to see on the various creative teams.
