Kelly Sue DeConnick Departs CAPTAIN MARVEL
|Now I have another reason to hate myself for missing HeroesCon this year. News coming out of the Milkfed panel is that Kelly Sue DeConnick, writer of Captain Marvel, will be stepping aside after Secret Wars.
.@kellysue won’t be returning to #captainmarvel after secret wars. 🙁 #heroescon

… in the audience. She realized after the movie was announced that she would have to “dig in for three more years or drop the mic” — Captain Marvel News✨ (@CaptMarvelNews) June 21, 2015
.. but that Carol has taught her to “brave the next step.” #HeroesCon Breaking News!!

I had a feeling that Kelly Sue’s time with Carol Danvers would be nearing an end when she took on Kelly Thompson as co-writer on the Secret Wars series Captain Marvel and the Carol Corps. Plus with the emergence of Milkfed Criminal Masterminds, hers and Matt Fraction’s production company, more of her time would need to be dedicated to their creator-owned ventures. Kelly Sue has outgrown Marvel.
So the question is, who will take over as writer of Captain Marvel after it is relaunched in All-New, All-Different Marvel? My money is on Marguerite Bennett. After co-writing Angela – Asgard’s Assassin and a few other Secret Wars titles, she is primed to step into the spotlight with her own series.
