Pre-Sweet Christmas Prescriptions 2016

Picks of the Week:
Ether No. 2 revealed so much yet felt so short.  The readers learned the mechanics of traveling to Ether from Earth. Glum came off as a Ben Grimm stand-in with his gruff exterior and internal softie and his role as foil for the Reed Richards-esque Boone.  The readers also got a substantial taste of the Blazes character from the flashback.  Part of me hopes that the creators do a prequel tale about her.
Invincible Iron Man No. 2 showed us a glimpse of how that personal tragedy that impacted Young RiRi.
The readers also got to see Tony Stark starring as Obiwan Kenobi, Force Ghost.  I loved how RiRi thinks on her feet.
Horizon No. 6 presented a very formidable boss battle in this issue. The action sequences reminded me of the Dead Fantasy videos.
Lake of Fire No. 10 was a satisfying end to Medieval Attack the Block.  I hope to see sequels set in later time periods.
Power Man & Iron Fist Annual No. 1 had to be the best Krampus tale after the Venture Bros Christmas Special.
Superman No. 13 made me glad that they tweaked the relationship between the Bride & the Monster.  It was a tad creepy in 7 Soldiers of Victory.  This iteration of Lois is awesome!

Worthy Mentions:
Amazing Spider-Man No. 22 filled us in on what happened to old Ben Reily since we last saw him… spoiler, life sucked.
Aquaman No. 13 thankfully didn’t follow the whole misunderstanding battle then team-up trips. It looks like Aquaman versus Tiger Sharks is next.
Avengers 2.1 was a nice escape from all the horror these characters are currently experiencing or inflicting.
Batman No. 13 reminded me of the Prometheus origin arc in respect to Selina’s role in defeating the big bad.
Cage! No. 3 still feels like Black Dynamite by way of Samurai Jack.
Captain America – Sam Wilson No. 16 reminded me that Marvel has some cringe-inducing villains.
Cave Carson has a Cybernetic Eye No. 3 made me want to own a drill car… err drill-mobile. I appreciate the unexpected comedy of it i.e. the “Crystal Lake” joke.
Cyborg No. 7 ended the Variant story in such a cliche way.
Deadpool & the Mercs for Money No. 6 was the first & last appearance of the Mighty Merc Rangers.
Divinity III Stalinverse was irksome in the sense that 2/3 of the story was posted on a comic news site.
Dr. Aphra No. 2 really thrilled me with the KoTR elements.
Dr. Strange No. 15 reminded me of an old Bugs Bunny cartoon in the sense that 3 villains are competing to terminate him. Kudos to the creative team for making the Orb a threat.
Green Arrow No. 13 was the clique super hero framing story spiced up with the dirty/aggressive cop element.
Green Lantern No. 13 had an interesting remix for the origins of the Green Lantern rings.
Justice League vs Suicide Squad No. 1 overcame my apprehension and doubts and delivered a solid story.
Nightwing No. 11 was interesting to see a true villains recovery/rehab support group. It was also nice to see Dick willing to aid them.
Spider-Gwen No. 15 convinced this is the best iteration of evil Matt. Kudos to the creative team!
Star Lord No. 1 made me wonder if Peter would be the latest Peter to be mentored by Logan.
Silver Surfer No. 8 still feels like a mix of the Tennant and Smith Doctor.
Ultimates II No. 2 was partially irked by Carol & her moral high horse. It was interesting to see the verdict given by the Living Tribunal.  I wonder if the action will cause Marvel’s supreme being, The One Above All, to take action or he send another lackey.
Uncanny X-Men No. 16 made me wonder how they could trap Karnak for so long.  It also made me shudder with anticipation of Fantomex’s next upgrade.
The Unbelievable Gwenpool No. 9, The Punisher No. 7, Solo No. 3, Patsy Walker aka Hellcat No. 13 Gamora No. 1, Justice League No. 11, Raven No. 4, Thanos No. 2, & Venom No. 2 were underwhelming and/or boring!
