The Prescriptions for 11/16/16

Pick of the Week:

All New Wolverine No. 14 made me wonder if the Howletts are as equally cursed as the Pyms. Gabby is almost like a Tim Drake to Laura’s Bruce Wayne.  She brings a certain light into her world that prevents her from wallowing in the darkness that had consumed much of Logan’s life.

Horizon No. 5 reminded me of George Carlin’s monologue about intelligent life and their reaction to humanity.  Mankind definitely deserves this forced intervention and whatever is coming to them.

Infamous Iron Man No. 2 doesn’t make Victor’s road to redemption easy and it shouldn’t be considering all of the hurt and pain he has inflicted on the world & superhero community. I find it funny that the Mad Thinker sees Doom’s action as a betrayal of their ethics when Victor has always been loyal to one thing: himself.

Squadron Supreme No. 13 impressed me. The growth of Hyperion and Spectrum and their expressions regarding their roles in Namor’s death made them something more than Marvel’s Authority analogue.  They are proactive but they also operate with a conscience.

Worth the read:

Amazing Spider-Man No. 21 irked me immensely that Kaine was brought back only to suffer from this fate.  It also explained why the clones need the pills.

Batman No. 11 truly paints what a weird relationship the Bat and the Cat have.  I am a bit surprised that she has such a large body count. Bat’s Squad feels more disposable than Waller’s,

Black Panther No. 8 was touching to see T’Challa emote and express his feelings to his allies.  It was also refreshing to find out more about Wakandan culture, particularly the Djalia.

BPRD: HE No. 147 had an unexpected happy ending. It resolved in such a clean way, yes they can definitely continue to tell stories in that world. It is an overall satisfying series.

Captain America – Sam Wilson No. 15 makes me wonder why Marvel hasn’t done a series on D-Man and posthuman pro-wrestling in the Marvel Universe. Have CM Punk write it and Rafael Grampa illustrate it.

Cyborg No. 5 reminded me of Mother One’s from Wetworks and it partially surprised me with how they kinda touched a racial issues and kept it moving.

Deadpool No. 22 had some priceless hilarious scenes (Wade and Johnny scene) but it also bummed me out. I did not see that coming and it made me feel for Wade.

Dr. Strange No. 14 was Vertigo trippy vibe.  It looks like the creative team has found a way to make Strange and appealing/interesting to me.

Green Lanterns No. 11 felt like a remix of Mega Mind that replaced the Superman pastiche with a Green Lantern one.

Justice League No. 9 made me more curious about the source of a threat that can hack New God and Oan technology.

Max Ride – Final Flight No. 3 still feels like I am reading a Gargoyles fanfic (which isn’t a bad thing).

Moonshine No. 2 still feels like American Werewolf in London mixed with Boardwalk Empire. It had some legitimately frightening scenes.  Kudos to the creative team!

Nightwing No. 9 is consistently one of the best Big Two books out IMO. I found it cool that a bond that can transcend the multiverse exists.  I also glad that Prime Earth Clark has a decent relationship with at least one resident of the Nu52 Earth. Dr. Destiny is surprisingly a frightening villain.

Old Man Logan No. 13 reminded me visually of a mix of Ninja Scroll, Naruto, and various other unique ninja themed animes.

Reborn No. 2 has me intrigued with action-orientated remix of What Dreams May Come. It feels like the world organically expands and gains definition as the relationship to Bonnie is explained.

Silk No. 14 made me feel for JJ more and gave me a profound understanding of why Jackal’s offer.

Spider-Man No. 9 made me wonder how is SHIELD not more aware of Miles considering his dad’s connection to the organization.  It was also touching to see how much his Champion teammates care about him.

Superman No. 11 reminds me of Naruto for some reason with Damien as Sasuke, Nobody as Sakura, and Jon as Naruto.

Thanos No. 1 confused me a bit why would the Spoiler be a bad thing for Thanos seeing that how it’s his greatest ambition.  It also makes me wonder if Death is like Galactus and her appearance is determined by what the viewer can handle.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl No. 14 reminds me of the X-Factor Issue where Multiple Man was at war with one of his dupes.  Enigmo seems like a perfect addition to the dream D-Man wrestling series.

Trinity No. 3 made me  love Bats even more.  It also reminded me of the episode of BMTAS where he was trapped in the perfect world where his parents never died and when they were trying to convince an elderly Bruce that he was going crazy.

Uncanny Inhumans No. 15 reminded me of Fullmetal Alchemist with Irelle and Treste’s quest for closure and coping with their loss.

Uncanny X-Men Annual No. 1 reminded of the episode of Stargate where a system lord was being tortured by a continuous cycle of death and resurrection.

Nah, Just Nah:

Carnage No. 14, Jessica Jones No. 2, Green Arrow No. 11, Patsy Walker A.K.A. Hellcat! No. 12 and Suicide Squad No. 6 were boring as hell.
