Pick of the Week:

Avengers No. 1 had me pleased that the creative team explained how Kang and his counterparts haven’t royally messed up the time like that arrogant smurf ape-cat abomination aka Hank McCoy.  The Vision solo series explained why Vision would take such drastic steps in his feud against Kang.  I am curious about Avenger X, is he a brand new character or an existing character rebranded.  My constant gripe with time travel stories is why Time Variance Authority allowing folk like McCoy and Vision to fudge up the time stream without punishment?

Nightwing No. 7 & 8 created a perfect foil for Dick in the form of Raptor.  His connection to the Grayson family makes him a more intimate enemy.  It had a satisfying conclusion that paints Bruce in a positive life in the sense that he tried to prevent anyone from becoming him in the raising of young Master Grayson.

Superman No. 10 made me see Damien in a different light because his love for animals and Jon’s accidental murder of a hawk and cat being the reason for his grudge against the young Kryptonian.  It’s interesting that a boy raised by an assassin cult is capable of loving any thing.  The minor scuffle between the super dads reminded me of those viral little league/soccer game videos.  Something noble about Bruce and Clark ready to go to the extreme to protect their kids (Bruce had a Kryptonite Batarang ready for Clark).

The Unworthy Thor No. 1 surprised me with the appearance of Old Man Fury (the architect of all of the Odinson’s troubles) and his role in the quest of retrieve the Ultimate Mjolnir.  For some reason, riding a giant Asgardian ram is cooler than traveling on Mjolnir (IMO).  Part of me wonders if his reaction to losing his prized weapon is part of the reason he continues to be unworthy.  He hasn’t taken it well, wallowing in his frustration & depression then appeasing the pain with mead and self-pity.  His successor, Jane has been dealt horrid cards by life, but she isn’t wallowing and she’s at peace with those cards.  Is that part of the reason why Mjolnir found her worthy?

Worth the read:

Aquaman No. 10 seems like Arthur can’t have good things.

Batman No. 10 confused me a bit, not sure how Bruce was able to Chris Nolan a severe spinal injury like that.

Catwoman – Election Night No. 1 disappointed me that Cobblepot was turned into a Trump Pastiche but I loved the Prez story.

Champions No. 2 made me love Kamala even more, her team building activity is something I would have done if I was her age and under those circumstances.  I was disturbed by the end scene.

Cyborg No. 4 is a bittersweet issue, Vic regains his memories but not the most valuable one.

Deadpool & The Mercs for Money No. 5 reminds me why Machine Man written in the Nextwave vein is a good fit for him.

Death of X No. 3 apparently brought Alchemy out of limbo just to kill him off in the next issue.

Foolkiller No. 1 was an unexpected treat.  It made me interested in Foolkiller and his civilian identity.  Part of me wishes that it was darker and given to Ennis to run wild with it.

Green Arrow No. 10 had me laugh out loud when Ollie used the boxing glove arrow.  I am surprised that this is still a part of his arsenal.

Green Lantern No. 10 added an interesting new item to the Green Lantern lore.  I would be interested to see what becomes of it after this arc.

Justice League No. 8 has me intrigued from a scifi nerd perspective by a program that can hack Vic’s space god technology, Wayne Tech, and Oan technology.

Midnighter and Apollo No. 2 reminded me of the What Dreams May Come version of Hell.  I found it comical that Bendis foolishly left a stapler in the room and paid for it in spades.  It will be interesting to see the eventual showdown between Midnighter and Neron.

Moon Knight No. 8 was a trippy issue and part of me wishes that we can get a mini series with humans fighting space werewolves for control of the moon.

Occupy Avengers No. 1 has my interest with the inclusion of Red Wolf.  I am curious to see him to play straightman to Barton’s wild antics.

Prophet Earth War No. 6 gave us a unique ending.  The creative team could easily choose to do stories on any of the time periods they touched on in this issue.  I personally would love to see a story about the Badrock-Troll entity.

Revolution No. 4 finally moved passed the cliche misunderstanding stage to the uniting against the common enemy stage.

Scarlet Witch No. 12 adds the finishing touches on fleshing out the true origins of the Maximoff twins and the mother.

Southern Bastards No. 15 delighted me to see Coach Boss’s world crumble around him.  Couldn’t happen to a more deserving mouth breather.  Part of me still wants to see this translated to television.

Spider-Woman No. 13 made me hate Hobgoblin even more for what he did to poor Roger.  I hope Jess visits great pain upon him!

Spidey No. 12 made me sad to see Gwen because what we saw in the first Clone Saga book a few weeks ago.  The action sequences felt a bit too brief.

Nah, Just Nah:

Spider-Man 2099 No. 17 returned to being Meh IMO.  Death of Hawkman No. 2, Revival No. 44 & Shade, Changing Girl No. 2 were boring as well.
