The Doktor’s Indie Prescriptions for 10/28/15

Rumble_08-1

Pick of the Week – Rumble No. 8
What I dug: The hybrid trick or treaters were unexpected kawaii (didn’t know that the Eso race can mate with humans). Arcudi and Harren somehow got me to care about Lerna, the wounded hydra.  Harren’s monster designs continue to be impressive.
What I don’t fancy: Not a thing!
Buy or Nah: BUY IT NOW!!!

Black Magick No. 1
What I dug: The art is stunning. Rowan Black is an interesting character and reminds me of Shannon Doherty for some reason.
What I don’t fancy: Wasn’t expecting the detail in the first few pages.
Buy or Nah: Buy it!

Chew No. 51
What I dug: The art style and zany scenes were appealing.  I found Olive Chu’s abilities very interesting.
What I don’t fancy: Nothing
Buy or Nah: Buy!

From Under Mountains No. 2
What I dug: The issue expanded the world and added some depth. I am interested to see the final process.
What I don’t fancy: Nothing stood out.
Buy or Nah: Buy it!

Island No. 4
What I dug: I thoroughly enjoyed the Gael Bertrand segment. I followed his deviantart work and was satisfied to see an expansion of it.
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

IXth Generation No. 16
What I dug: The reinvention of the Top Cow brand into somethings sophisticated and appealing. Love how the major franchise books are interconnected in an organic way.
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Manifest Destiny No. 18
What I dug: The history geek in me enjoys the alternate timeline packed with odd creatures. The freaky jeepers peeper monster was creepy like something out of a Giger nightmare.
What I don’t fancy: It’s too much gore.
Buy or Nah: Buy!

OdyC No. 8
What I dug: The art is the main draw.
What I don’t fancy: It was too graphic and jarring for me.
Buy or Nah: Nah!

Revival No. 34
What I dug: The cast feels very organic.  The dialogue felt natural.
What I don’t fancy: Nothing stands out…
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Savage Dragon No. 208
What I dug: The art is the main draw.
What I don’t fancy: It is too over the top! I can see how this could be appealing to the teenage demographic.
Buy or Nah: Buy only if you’re a long time fan.

Spread No. 11
What I dug: The action sequences were visually epic.
What I don’t fancy: It is too bloody.
Buy or Nah: On the fence
