Avengers #32 Review

*SPOILER FREE REVIEW*

Writer:  Brian Michael Bendis
Artists:  Mike Mayhew & Brandon Peterson

With Avengers vs. X-Men concluded, it’s time for Brian Michael Bendis to end his long successful run on the Avengers titles.  Bendis is scheduled to write the new debuting All-New X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy in the new Marvel NOW!  In this issue, the Avengers receive an emergency beacon call from a team member from their past.  As they respond to the call, they are left wondering if they have bitten off more than they can chew.

What I Liked

The combined art efforts of Mike Mayhew and Brandon Peterson made this an enjoyable book to read.  Without giving too much away, I enjoyed seeing the Avengers “assemble” to aid a former member in need.

What I Didn’t Like

Nothing to really dislike in this one.  Story is straightforward.  If there was one thing I could bring up, it’s that besides the recap page at the front of the book, there is no mention of the grueling fight the Avengers just endured in Avengers vs. X-Men.  The Avengers are back to their normal lives of safeguarding the globe.

I believe there is only one more issue of Avengers to go, before it’s relaunched with a brand-spanking new #1 in Marvel NOW!  Some fans will miss having Bendis on the titles, while others will be excited to see what Jonathan Hickman has in store for Earth’s Mighties Heroes.  Count me among the latter.  I’ve heard nothing but good things about Hickman’s run on Fantastic Four.  I can only imagine what he will do with the Avengers.

Make sure to leave your comments below on what your feelings are on Bendis’ departure from Avengers, and what you think of Avengers going into Marvel NOW!
