The Recipe for 9/19/18

Pick of the Week:

Edge of Spider-Geddon #3 personally makes me wish that Marvel decides to expand the tales of Spider Ben & Pete like they did previously with Spider Gwen.  Ben Parker has a Ben Grimm/HellBoy blue collar worker vibe.  Peter’s optimism/hopefulness is a counterbalance for Ben’s world weariness/resignation.  I also loved how gray of their world is like the displaced and disgruntled old man they encountered.

Immortal Hulk #6 presented a very formidable threat in the form of General Fortean.  It makes perfect sense that the military’s Hulk Division would repeat the mistakes made by Thunderbolt Ross and double down on the scientific error.  Found it interesting that the creepy horror vibe was maintained despite the inclusion of Alpha Flight and the Avengers.

Mister Miracle #11 confirmed a nagging suspicion that I had as well as cement what a complete monster Metron is. Overall this series felt like a brutal remix of the classic For the Man Who Has Everything.  Part of me that big reveal was something else and had a lasting impact.

Worthy Mentions:

Avengers #8 finally explain why Jennifer’s altered state is so drastically different and her intellect is impaired.

Justice League #8 upped Cheetah’s game to a god killer.  I appreciate that even in defeat Legion’s plans still progress.  Found it interesting that The Batman Who Laughs even makes the Joker uneasy.  I wonder what kind of chaos will visit the world now that the cosmic horror cloaked as a bat is free.

Infinity Wars – Soldier Supreme #1 reminds me of Amalgam Comics in the sense that some of the mashups are not smooth and are a bit clunky.

Multiple Man #4 revealed how Jamie ended back in the present in addition to revealing how those dupes received their power upgrades.  I wonder how this will be resolved and if Jaime will end up one of the X-Men’s ever-growing roster of time refugees.

Thor #5 makes me wonder why Franklin Richards isn’t around since he is supposed to be present at the end of the universe and witness the birth of the next universe.  I also wonder what happened to all the major players of the Universe like the Kree, Skrull, Shi’ar at this point in time.  I also wonder why the Phoenix chose Logan as its last avatar. Quentin must be pissed on some level.

Mr. & Mrs. X #3 revealed Xandra, the child of Xavier and Lilandra.  I hope that she isn’t a throwaway character and has some longevity

Feeling Some Type of Way:

Nothing that loathsome or odious this week.
