The Recipe for 3/14/18

Pick of the Week:
All New Wolverine #32 continues to cement the unique reign of Laura as Wolverine.  She demonstrated that she learned to take the higher road rather than resort to a stabfest like her “father” and “siblings”.  She attempts to heal Amber who was harmed by her actions when she was a mere tool.  She could have said “it’s not my fault, they used me” and kept it moving (like Wolverine has done in the path since he’s brainwashed or mind controlled every other Tuesday).  She made an effort to find the person responsible for both of their sorrows.  I hope that Laura will continue to evolve and grow into a more thoughtful/endearing character than her father.  Must say that Djibail Morissette-Phan’s artwork caught my eye, his faces are expressive and his linework is crisp/detailed.

Despicable Deadpool #296 continues to put Wade through the ringer.  He went from being a top and loved to this very lonely isolated place.  Part of me hopes that Coulson actually pulled a Black Widow and is working off the grid so Wade wouldn’t have to deal with that level of guilt.  Found it interesting that Wade sought to damage Steve’s reputation like Hydra Steve led to Wade’s current state.

Worthy Mentions

Infidel #1 felt like a Japanese Horror film with the atmosphere and pacing (which is a good thing in my book) but also dealt with real world social issues as well.

Marvel Two-In-One #4 founds it interesting that two alternate Logans stabbed innocent people under the assumption that they were Skrulls/could heal.  Doom the Devourer of Worlds, visually reminded me of Doom the Annihilating Conqueror.  I loved that all the super heroes fell under the SHIELD umbrella and Sue Storm is leading them.  I also wonder if the super villains threw their lot with AIM or HYDRA.

New Mutants – Lost Souls #1 made me wish that Doug Ramsey and/or Warlock was in this story instead of Guido.  Hope they explained how Guido seems so normal after coming back to life soulless and becoming a ruler of a hell dimension.  Where’s Shatterstar? Thought he and Julio were a package deal?

Peter Parker – The Spectacular Spider-Man #301 impressed me with interaction between the two JJJ’s.   I wished that this version of Jonah appeared in other books, the more humane and likeable Jonah versus the blowhard that we tend to see in other media.

Slots #6 feels like something could fill the void left by Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire.  I hope AMC or Netflix picks it.

The Punisher #222 felt like a rehash of Greg Pak’s run on War Machine

Vs #2 felt like a well-written version of Smash TV.  Flynn seems like an interesting character with an Old Snake vibe.  The Ribic art makes me wish that MacFarlane still made action figure.

The Meh Pile:

Nothing that horrid & foul has polluted the pull list.
