The Doktor’s Prescription for 6/8/16

Birthright_16-1

Picks of the Week:

Faster Than Light No. 7

Love this series! The next Star Trek/Trek clone should use this series as a template for creating alien cultures and political intrigue.

Vision No. 8

It was interesting to see the sons of Ultron interact with each other.  The bonding moments with Victor were touching and the twist at the end was unexpected.

Howard the Duck No. 8

The kid in me who loved the Howard the Duck movie (probably in the minority) and read the comics was pleased with this issue.  I also want to see more Iron Punisher!

Birthright No. 16

Just when I think I have the plot figured out, the creative team throws another curveball.  Aaron’s pain is so tangible in this issue.  I wonder if the remaining mages will have enough power to save/heal the chosen one.

Injection No. 10

Viv stole the show in this issue.  It is interesting to witness how he views and interacts with the world around him.

Action Comics No. 957

I am curious about Luthor’s angle in posing as a hero.  The 3rd Clark Kent was unexpected. Overall the premise merits investments in future issues.

Detective Comics No. 934

The Robin that I grew up with is back.  I am curious about Clayface, thought the first Clayface was dead.  Would be interesting to see how he fits into the Bat Family.

Earth 2 – Society No. 13

Earth 2 provides an interesting remix of the DC universe, I am most curious about Fury.

Poe Dameron No. 3

Never expected to see a Kaiju battle in the Star Wars universe.  For some reason, it reminded me of the Mothra films.

Darth Vader No. 21

Cyborg Space Whales?! Man, just when I thought the Kaiju monsters in Poe Dameron were the major “Wow” factor.  I see CYBORG SPACE WHALES! Are cyborg Wookies next? Please let there be a cyborg Wookie!

Empress No. 3

Absolutely loving this Nu-Millar style.  Dane has to be one of the most epic characters ever! Jumping into the mouth of a giant monster to rescue a baby & blasting his way out of its guts.  The heart-to-heart between the Empress & her daughters sounds like trouble in the near future.

Worth the read:

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D No. 6 made me feel some type of way with the transition of Ward into the comics.

All New X-Men No. 10 surprised that teen Apocalypse is as thoughtful and sensitive as Evan, makes me wonder what changed him into a genocidal madman.

Aquaman – Rebirth No. 1 is not the hook handed & bearded Aquaman that I am used but still an interesting story.

Civil War II – Amazing Spider-Man No. 1 was a fun issue, especially the Johnny Storm comedic elements.

Civil War II – Gods of Wars No. 1 feels like a slow burn in some sense.

Daredevil No. 8 was a satisfying issue and makes me wonder why we had to suffer through the 10 finger nonsense.

Fix No. 3 has the makings of the next Breaking Bad, honestly surprised that AMC hasn’t picked this up.

Deadpool & Mercs for Money No. 5 had me at Redneck Kingpin.

Guardians of the Galaxy No. 9 confused me with the reintroduction of Angela who seems different from the Queen of Hel Angela.

Invisible Republic No. 10 is another great series that should get the TV treatment.

Island No. 8 gave a satisfying conclusion to the space cannibal tale.

New Avengers No. 12 surprised me in the sense that no one threw Squirrel Girl at the celestial villain.  She can defeat Doom & Thanos without breaking a sweat.

Shutter No. 22 was not expecting that bloodbath at all… Cripes!

The Flash – Rebirth No. 1 felt like a rehash of Rebirth with sprinkles on top.

Venom – Space Knight No. 8 returned us to the out of control symbiote trope.

Wacky Raceland No. 1 is a gritty and grounded remix of a cartoon that I dug as a child.  I wonder if Adult Swim will option this as a show in the future.

Wolfe No. 8 confused me a bit because I missed an issue, but the side story at the end was great.

Wonder Woman – Rebirth No. 1 has started the process of undoing/wiping out the Nu52 run.  As reviled as the run is, it did have some interesting elements like the power-limiter bracelets.

Nah, Just Nah:

Thunderbolts No. 2 embodies too much of 90’s Image for my tastes, if you’re nostalgic for that stuff then buy it!
