The Doktor’s Prescriptions for 4/20/16

EastOfWest_25-1

Picks of the Week:

Captain Marvel No. 4

The growing relationship between Brand and Danvers is one of the most appealing things about the book.  I also enjoy the Deep Space Nine vibe of the book.  It is nice to see the Alpha Flight crew being active and assets.  It is also refreshing to see the Kree have other enemies outside of the Skrull.

East of West No. 25

The development of Wolf’s character, fleshing out his connection to his people, and their overall part in the grand scheme of things is one of the elements that make it such an awesome series IMO.

Howard the Duck No. 6

This crossover with Squirrel Girl was all sorts of fun. I appreciate this version of Kraven the Hunter.  The squirrel version of Wolverine needs his own miniseries.

Huck No. 6

I absolutely loving the NuMillar style, it had a happy and satisfying ending.  Huck and his mother are such endearing characters.

Power Man & Iron Fist No. 3

Señor Magico and Street Magic are strokes of sheer brilliance.  Magic on the street level is a long overdue concept.  This is the first time that I found Tombstone interesting.

Switch No. 3

Mary is such an interesting character and the introduction of the previous holders as her mentors adds such a nice wrinkle to the idea.  I am thoroughly enjoying the Top Cow remixes.

The Walking Dead – Alien No. 1

The change of location was welcomed.  I am surprised that Europe didn’t fare better than North America.  I loved the fact that someone raided a museum, stole medieval knight armor and used it as defense.

Worth the Read:

All New Hawkeye No. 6 gave some insight into Kate’s motivation towards super heroics.

Aloha, Hawaiian Dick No. 1 has a nice 70’s detective series vibe.

Black Road No. 1 is an interesting series, the writer excels at period pieces and Brown & McCraig did a splendid job on the visuals..

Captain America – Road to War No. 1 is the typical bland filler book.

Captain America – Sam Wilson No. 8 was surprisingly fun and a different tone for this mega event.

Chew Demon Poyo No. 1 is such an oddball and funny tale.

Criminal 10th Anniversary Special is the epitome of crime nor from the masters.

Deadpool No. 10 definitely came after Creed hard.

Extraordinary X-Men No. 9 really put those recruits through the ringer.

Hyperion No. 2 is so-so.

Karnak No. 3 is typical Ellis.

New Avengers No. 10 was the conclusion to Voltron versus Godzilla.

Nova No. 6 reminded me of DBZ in the sense that Sam much like Gohan is holding back.

Obi-Wan & Anakin No. 4 fleshed out more of Anakin’s past and made me appreciate him more.

Savage Dragon No. 213 is just as over-the-top as I remembered.

Silk No. 7 was a fun issues.

Spider-Man Deadpool No. 4 was entertaining, especially the double date aspect!

Starbrand & Nightmask No. 5 was meh!

The Astonishing Ant Man No. 7 is an interesting series but a slow burn!

The Dark Tower – Bitter Medicine No. 1 is interesting but probably more enjoyable in trade format!

The Mighty Thor No. 6 was another episode of Fratboy Thor!

The Totally Awesome Hulk No. 6 gave some insight into Amadeus and the source of his anger.

Tithe Vol. 2 is an enjoyable series and should be translated into a movie or a television series!

Uncanny Inhumans No. 7 was meh!

Nah, Just Nah:

Guardians of Infinity No. 5 had good ideas but didn’t come together well like those bootleg Gundam models at a comic shop.

Tokyo Ghost No. 6 felt like old Millar, over-the-top & graphic. The narrative felt forced and gratuitous at some points.

A married pleasantly plump collection of flesh, blood, bones, tears, & hope
