The Doktor’s Prescription for 3/2/2016

detail

Pick of the Week – A-Force No. 3
What I dug: How the team fit almost perfectly into their Secret War roles. Also love the reminder that Singularity is actually a humanoid pocket dimension.
What I don’t fancy: Maybe I am jaded but the death in this issue didn’t seem permanent.
Buy or Nah: Buy it!

Pick of the Week – Black Widow No. 1
What I dug: The high octane action film vibe is a perfect fit for the character. Chris Samnee illustrated some epic jaw dropping sequences, namely the motorcycle flying car chase sequence. I trust the Said Samnee partnership from their Daredevil collaboration.
What I don’t fancy: SHIELD as the antagonist is a tired trope at this point IMO!
Buy or Nah: BUY IT NOW!!! Get a print, digital copy! Just get it!

Pick of the Week – Old Man Logan No. 3
What I dug: How broken yet resilient this iteration of Logan is. He has a Spider-Man quality about him with overbearing guilt is his primary motivation. I love the glimpses of Logan’s family & his fleeting glimmer of happiness.
What I don’t fancy: Felt so short!
Buy or Nah: BUY IT NOW

Pick of the Week – Prophet Earth War No. 2
What I dug: How it carries such a strong barbarian trope vibe yet fits perfectly in the high technology futuristic setting. Much kudos to Brandon Graham for skillfully demonstrating “Conan in Space”
What I don’t fancy: Felt so short!
Buy or Nah: BUY IT NOW!

Pick of the Week – Saints No. 6
What I dug: The transformation of the villains into the four horsemen and the army of kid zealots. How the writer took a trope and made it fresh with a few twists.
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy it!

Avengers Standoff Assault on Pleasant Hill Alpha No. 1
What I dug: The true identity of the Whisperer and the formation of the rebels.
What I don’t fancy: Tired of Cosmic Cubes & characters spawned from them!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Darth Vader No. 17
What I dug: The overall fleshing out of Anakin Skywalker’s character.
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Deadpool No. 8
What I dug: The glimpses of Wade’s team & his plan to take down Creed!
What I don’t fancy: Nada!

Guardians of Infinity No. 4
What I dug: Nada!
What I don’t fancy: Nada!

Invincible Iron Man No. 7
What I dug: The new relationship between Tony and Peter and the villainous War Machine.
What I don’t fancy: … …
Buy or Nah: Buy!

IXTH Generation No. 8
What I dug: The revitalization of Top Cow artifacts and the brilliant way they are being used.
What I don’t fancy: Nah!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Nova No. 5
What I dug: The change of heart from the clone and the motivation behind it!
What I don’t fancy: How Sam’s portrayal isn’t consistent!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Revival No. 37
What I dug: The appearance of the more mainstream variety of zombies.
What I don’t fancy: …
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Spider-Man No. 2
What I dug: Acknowledgement of his full ethnicity and the appearance of his abuela.
What I don’t fancy: The disappearance of the bond between Miles and Peter among other things off due to Secret Wars.
Buy or Nah: Buy it!

Uncanny Avengers No. 4
What I dug: The maturity and character growth of Wade in his handling of the Wrecker.
What I don’t fancy: The Red Skull, can Marvel writers out on the shelf for awhile!
Buy or Nah: Buy It!

Uncanny X-Men No. 4
What I dug: The return of Xorn and his defeat of the Dark Riders.
What I don’t fancy: The art lacks a certain spark but the story is solid!
Buy or Nah: Buy It!
