LUMBERJANES And GOTHAM ACADEMY Announce Crossover

‘Lumberjanes’ and ‘Gotham Academy’ Crossover Series Arrives June 2016!

DC Comics has found recent success crossing over their heroes with other comic book publishers.  IDW Publishing and DC Comics have teamed up to bring Green Lantern/Star Trek and Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to comic shops and digital storefronts.

Riding on those successes, we will soon see Lumberjanes from BOOM! Studios crossover with Gotham Academy.  Given that both series star an eclectic cast of teenagers makes this a no-brainer team-up.

The creative lineup seems to lean more on the Lumberjanes team.  Which makes me wonder if this is the brainchild of BOOM! Studios.  And if so, good for them!  And good for DC to lend out their characters like this.  It should be a win-win for both companies.

Below is the press release from BOOM! Studios.

March 8, 2016 (Los Angeles, Calif.) – Today, BOOM! Box, an imprint of BOOM! Studios, and DC Comics announced a Lumberjanes Gotham Academy crossover limited series, debuting in June. The announcement was made on The Village Voice.

The six-issue series will be written by Chynna Clugston-Flores (Blue Monday) and illustrated by Rosemary Valero-O’Connell (Lumberjanes). The main cover, revealed today, is illustrated by Mingjue Chen (Gotham Academy).

The crossover marks BOOM!‘s first-ever partnership with DC Comics, and also the first crossover to be produced directly by the publisher.

Further details about the crossover and additional cover images will be revealed over the coming week.

A quote from The Village Voice,

“Lumberjanes will get a six-issue crossover series with Gotham Academy, DC Comics’ story of boarding school students set in the darkness of Gotham.

It’s a natural fit: Both series follow an ensemble cast of young characters as they grapple with normal teenage stuff (love, tragedy, identity) and the kind of stuff that most teens will never have to face, like yetis (Lumberjanes) and Batman’s nemesis Killer Croc (Gotham Academy). The limited series is written by Chynna Clugston-Flores (Blue Monday) and illustrated by Rosemary Valero-O’Connell (Lumberjanes).”
