The Doktor’s Indie Prescription for 11/11/2015

brdr11 epic

Pick of the Week – Birthright No. 11
What I dug: Joshua Williams & his merry band of adventurers continue to blast my inner geek with magic missiles. The readers find out what happened to Brennan in previous issues. A deeper explanation of The Nevermind & its corrupted victims is given. This issue has dragons… Dragons riding weird gigantic ogres! I loved the glimpse into Mikey’s past, his transformation into a barbarian tank, and encounter with Kallista.
What I don’t fancy: The cliffhanger… I have to wait 30 days for my answer.
Buy or Nah: BUY IT NOW!!!

8House No. 5
What I dug: The struggle between Yorris and the mindworm added to the surreal nature of her world.  The fleshing out of her purpose and destiny was a nice touch. The art complements the trippy nature of the world.
What I don’t fancy: Wasn’t expecting the M rated content.
Buy or Nah: It may be too trippy for cape and cowl readers, if you are a Vertigo reader then this is for you.

Descender No. 7
What I dug: The revelation about the masked stranger and his hatred of mechanical lifeforms made sense. The reveal gives a clear sense of how much time has passed.
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Faster than Light No. 3
What I dug: The tendrils are creepy beyond measure. The fact that they can cause extinction events enhances the fear factor.
What I don’t fancy: The cliffhanger! Why you gotta do me like that!
Buy or Nah: Buy it!

Fatale Vol. 2
What I dug: Brubaker and Phillips are an amazing team. Josephine reminds me of Tomie due to her immortality and her effect on men. Josephine’s origins is not as nebulous as Tomie’s.
What I don’t fancy: The rated R segments didn’t add anything to the story!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Limbo No. 1
What I dug: A villain who wears a luchador mask and has a connection to the underworlds (criminal and literal). The monstrous man-eating rednecks were unexpected.
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Mythic No. 5
What I dug: The Midgard Serpent’s appearance and depiction were unexpected.  It is usually portrayed as a mindless monster without its father’s gift of gab.
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Southern Bastards No. 12
What I dug: The ending was… wow, I am assuming those are Rebel’s descendants.  This comic would make a great series.
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Thought Bubble 2015
What I dug: The Gauntlet story was satisfying. I dig when modern elements are added to D & D worlds. It also reminded me of those fruitless quests that are part of RPGs.
What I don’t fancy: Need more Gauntlet!
Buy or Nah: Buy!
