Comic Book Chronicles Ep. 1: Marvel NOW!

Marvel Comics decided it didn’t want to wait until Comic-Con International:  San Diego to announce breaking news.  They let the cat out of the hat a week early on their post-Avengers vs X-Men plans.  Those plans involve a “rebranding” of their line, calling it Marvel NOW!  Don’t confuse it with a reboot or relaunch however.  Marvel doesn’t want to be compared to their competition, DC Comics and their “New 52” initiative.

Timdogg and Adam Black sit down to discuss this breaking news, along with what else is taking place in the world of comic books.

Recorded on July 3rd, 2012

Excellent first episode! I agree that Alpha is not long for the Marvel Universe.  Unless they rename him something else.  It’s not like Marvel has had much luck with characters named after letters in the greek alphabet (Looking at you Omega the Unknown).

The latest Marvel Solicitations for October have some clues for what will happen in AvX and a better idea of the titles that will be ending and likely relaunching in the near future.

And if you could get the instrumental track from the 60’s Spidey cartoon as your background music, that would be pretty cool. But if I am reading Tim’s fanboy leanings correctly, I think he would rather have the theme to the X-Men animated series from the 90’s as the background track.

    • You’re correct on which way my fanboy-dom would lead me!  X-Men animated series all the way.  What do you think about all this Marvel NOW! news coming out?

I think most of Marvel NOW is positive.  I am on the fence about a “new” Nova, since they did such a good job with Richard Rider Nova in the Annihilation and beyond developing that character.  Not sure what to make of the Hulk armor though.

Not a fan of these relaunches at number one though.  Uncanny X-Men just restarted less than 2 years ago, and now it is going away? In favor of time-traveling X-Men? We’ll see.
