R.I.P. The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes!

What started out as an Internet rumor was finally confirmed by Marvel Animation.  The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes! will be cancelled after the second season ends.  I initially had my doubts about EMH when I saw it’s animation style and the opening theme, with music included.  It all just seemed really cheesy.

Then the micro-episodes started to air on Disney XD.  Though they were only around 12-15 minutes long, they did a superb job of introducing all the main players and setting the tone for the series.  EMH really felt like an Avengers comic book brought to the small screen.  Storylines were plucked right from the comics.  In season one we saw the team fight time traveler Kang the Conqueror, the robotic Ultron, terrorist groups Hydra and A.I.M., and even travel to the home of the Gods, Asgard.  Season two (still in progress) is bringing us the Kree/Skrull war, and Secret Invasion.  You’d think Marvel would want to keep this momentum going.  But nope, no matter how popular the show is, Marvel Animation is going to can it and replace EMH with Marvel’s Avengers Assemble (under Marvel’s creative control).

I went through the typical stages of grief (denial, anger, acceptance).  I’m on the “acceptance” stage now.  Since I have come to accept EMH’s fate, I now look onward to Avenger’s Assemble.  Rumors have circulated that there will be less stories that continue from episode-to-episode, in favor of one-and-done stories.  Jeph Loeb (the man responsible for EMH’s demise, and public enemy #1 of the KLIQ) feels that stories that continue into multiple episodes are too confusing for kids to keep up with.  This statement is complete lunacy.  Marvel comic books always carry storylines on to future issues.  Marvel even makes a point to have one or two huge “events” each year that span into 6+ parts.  Seems those would be difficult for kids to keep up with right?

Anyway, below is some artwork to promote Avengers Assemble.  The lineup for the team is the same as for The Avengers movie, with the edition of Falcon (who is the youngest and newest member of the team and is the “eyes” of the viewer”).  Let us know what your thoughts are on EMH being canceled and of the new show, Marvel’s Avengers Assemble.
