Howard Stern Announced as New Judge on “America’s Got Talent”

This morning Howard Stern announced on his SiriusXM morning show that he signed on to be a new judge on NBC’s talent show America’s Got Talent.  For any long-time listener to The Howard Stern Show, it was only inevitable that Howard Stern would end up judging a talent show.  He’s made no bones about wanting the cushy job of working less hours and getting to judge others.

I’ve been listening to Howard Stern for over the last five years.  My brother and fellow KLIQ member Adam Black got me satellite radio as a birthday gift, and I quickly became a fan of his show.  Over the last six months, however, I haven’t listened to the show as frequently as I use to.  After Stern resigned with SiriusXM for an additional five years, he changed his schedule to only work Monday-Wednesday, along with more vacations.  With less show to listen to, I branched out and found various podcasts to occupy my time.  Plus I haven’t been pleased with all the extra costs SiriusXM has added to their subscription plans.  I’d cancel them all together if I didn’t enjoy having satellite radio in my car.  It’s far superior to terrestrial radio.

The question is will the addition of Howard Stern to America’s Got Talent boost ratings for NBC?  I am going to say it will.  Stern still has a large fanbase, and casual fans will watch out of curiosity.  Also getting to see Stern interact with fellow judges Howie Mandel, Sharon Osborne, and host Nick Cannon should be quality TV.

I may watch the first show with Stern on, but after that I doubt I keep up with it.  I don’t watch the talent shows like American Idol or The X Factor, so Stern will not be enough of a hook to rope me in permanently.

Either way, this makes for more compelling TV and satellite radio.  Which makes us all winners in the end.  At least those who even care about this news to begin with.
