2011 – Year of the Strike-Shortened Fantasy Football League

With everyone in horror over the NFL strike STILL going on into July, it finally dawned on me that if the strike continues on into the season, we could be without fantasy football!!

Yes, I know that once the strike is over there will be abbreviated leagues being formed.  But not playing a full season from beginning to end isn’t the same.  Especially since the last two years I’ve been in leagues with alumni from college and coworkers.  And that is what really makes joining a fantasy league special:  the bonding that takes place when you’re competing against people you know in real life, rather than nameless internet foes.

Ranking of players will be interesting as well.  Everyone will be going off of last year’s stats, but how are we to be sure that all players have been training at 100% during the offseason?  There have been no mini-camps, and even pre-season games could be eliminated if the strike continues on.  The thought of Adrian Peterson morphing into JaMarcus Russell just flashed into my head….not a pretty sight.

I’m ready to redeem myself after my poor performance last year in my league with some fellow alums.  I still can’t believe I let Mario and Anita beat me like that smh.  And just in case they are reading this, best believe that this year my team’s going to rip through the league like the Green Bay Packers ripped through the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Championship game.
