Pick of the Week:

Avengers No. 5 makes me wonder why they are messing with time like Hank McCoy? Doesn’t anyone learn?! It reminded me of Avengers Forever with the various eras uniting.

Extremity No. 1 reminded me of Avatar the Last Airbender, mainly the siblings, Sokka & Katara. The enemy tribe was more or less the Fire Nation.  The hurt and rage were so tangible, you could almost taste it.

Invisible Republic No. 15 is more or less the type of show that SyFy should have on its lineup instead of Ghost Hunter & B movies.

Paper Girls No. 12 just when you think that you have a handle, the creative team throws another curve ball. The last scene more or less re-enacted every encounter Kang had with the Avengers.

Superman No. 18 made me despise NotClark as much as I despised Envy for killing Hughes. It almost made me curious… Extremely curious, why are they torturing me.

Nightwing No. 16 offered one of the best iterations of Damien outside of Super Sons. He actually feels organic and real.

Worthy Mentions:

America No. 1 presented the readers with a school that might be cooler than Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters and Avengers Academy. Sotomayor University shows tons of promise.  It reminded me of a good Spike Lee Joint (80’s and 90’s era) and a dash of A Different World (I almost pictured a young Jasmin Guy portraying her).

Aquaman No. 18 was a treat in the way that Aquaman dealt with his opponent, he didn’t take him out which would have been the easiest.  He tried to understand him and ultimately offered him sanctuary and an opportunity to heal from his trauma.

Batman No. 18 perfectly illustrates why Bane is Bruce’s equal yet opposite in the same manner that Creed is Logan’s equal yet opposite.

Deadpool No. 28 reminded me of Avatar in the sense that humanity is callous/thoughtless and ignorantly courting its doom from the natives.

Dr. Strange No. 18 surprised me that Strange would out Thor like that in a crowded environment.  I expect a move like that from Tony Stark not Strange.

Green Arrow No. 18 made me realize that Speedy is Oliver’s Jason Todd.

Green Lanterns No. 18 introduced the coolest multiversal travel apparatus since the Bleed Shiftship aka the Authority’s Carrier.

Hawkeye No. 4.provides more proof that Kate Bishop can carry a solo book.

Midnighter & Apollo No. 6 disappointed me a bit that Midnighter didn’t fight his deceased foes earlier or at least before confronting Neron.  I wonder if the absence of Prometheus in Hell meant that he was still alive.  Did Bendis die and will the duo eventually confront him? The escape portal made perfect sense.  I wished that it was as long as the previous series.

Moon Knight No. 12 was a refined example of Vertigo weirdness without getting super mind/sanity eroding trippy

Savage Dragon No. 221 solidified itself as the prime example of American Shonen.

Star Wars No. 29 concludes the Yoda side story & leaves a strong case for a Yoda limited series.

The Unstoppable Wasp No. 3 fills the void left by Valeria Richards being on another plane of existence. It showed Super science & geekery out of a new lens.

The Burn Pile:

Won’t taint your beings by mentioning these offensive messes!!
